A mom of two has died in front of her son after slipping off an almost 300-foot-high platform while trying to take a selfie to celebrate completing a dangerous bungee jumping stunt, authorities in Russia said.
Extreme sports fanatic Elizaveta Gushchina, 45, carried out the jump on Saturday — the same day she plummeted to her death in front of her 22-year-old son, Nikita, according to local authorities.
Gushchina then returned to the top of the 289-foot chimney at an unfinished thermal power plant without her safety harness to take a selfie with her son when she lost her footing and fell, hitting a hard surface above the ground, Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti reported.
“She secured herself to a rope used for rope jumping, but did not set the required safe length. Then, approaching the edge, the woman slipped on a wet board, fell from a height, and died,” a source told Russian outlet REN TV.

“Then they gave them social media and they stayed children for the rest of their lives.”
The end.

Especially the last 15 seconds...
Bungee jumping from the top of a 300 foot chimney stack is not the brightest thing to do, much less just standing on the few-bricks wide “platform” at the top. Seems like a real good chance of hitting the widening chimney on the way down. Then there’s falling the other way down the inside which would be even less fun.
We were discussing the stats on “dangerous selfies” on a thread yesterday....now another to add to the stats!
Lesson learned? Of course not!
Cell phones have killed quite a number of people. We need to regulate them. They’re dangerous, especially the assault cell phones.
Did she get it on her facebook?

Very sad.
NPR (spit) reported 633 deaths worldwide by someone trying for a selfie in the years between 2014 and 2025. India had the most. Falls, drownings and vehicle related deaths led the way.
Before cell videos the childhood memory of Al Franken’s character in the movie Stuart Saves His Family showed his drunk father posing him on a road trying to get the picture before the next car came close to take his snapshot by a good backdrop. He got hit but said later “They told me in the hospital I was saved because I had so much body fat that it cushioned me.
