On a side note, Bo Svenson, who played Pusser after Joe Don Baker is still living at age 84.
Walking Small
BS
I just saw a remake of this a few days ago. I had to refresh my memory on the original. I couldn’t remember the name of the actor in the first one but that’s why we have the internet. The remake had Dwayne Johnson as Pusser....
“”implicates the long-dead lawman in his wife’s shooting.””
Long dead? Died this year!!!!
Buford shot his wife, and then shot himself in the face? Does that really seem likely? Not something I could have done.
Who shoots have their face off to stage a murder?
“This isn’t about tearing down a legend”
Oh yes it is.
Loved JDB in movies.
McNairy County, TN has had some strange murders over the years.
I have visited Selmer more than once and whether Buford Pusser was a rotten guy or hero depends upon whom you ask.
Mary Winkler shot her preacher husband, Matthew, to death in 2006 in Selmer (McNairy Co.) TN. She blasted him with a shotgun as he lay asleep in their bed. Mary then fled to the Alabama Gulf Coast beach with her kids for a vacation break. She was arrested hundreds of miles away during that “break.”
She claimed her husband was kinky and made her wear platform shoes to bed when they had sex. That was quite a defense for shooting her husband to death in the back as he slept.
Mathew Winkler’s parents were furious their dead son was subjected to vicious defamation by Mary’s defense team. The dead man could NOT, of course, respond to the accusations.
There were also a lot of people in Selmer who felt sorry for Mary Winkler. She was convicted of voluntary manslaughter. She only served one week in jail after her conviction, having been given credit for time she served in jail before her trial.
Mary Winkler was involved in check kiting thousands of dollars, with many bounced checks, which she hid from her late husband. A lot of people thought the shooting death was related to a cover-up of her own financial crimes.
So, he got away with her murder and was hailed a hero. RIP Pauline.
If there is one thing I can’t stand in this life... It is historians who try to re-write established history.
Good example... Watch the series King and Conquer. It depicts the well known and historically recorded accurate facts leading up to 1066 and the Battle of Hastings. The well established fact is this... King Harold was killed by an arrow that struck him in the eye... Some, not all of course, but some of today’s supposed ‘historians’ claim that story isn’t true... They claim (with no actual historical data to back it up) that King Harold was instead stabbed to death and that the whole ‘arrow to the eye’ scenario was created for propaganda purposes by William the Conquer and that the scene depicted in the Bayeux tapestry which was created within a few years after the battle of Hastings isn’t correct.
That is absolute nonsense... King Harold was killed by an arrow to his eye... Just like the Bayeux tapestry depicts it... To claim or say otherwise is complete BS.
Same thing with this good man... He did not kill his wife and those who say he did are full of sh*te!
I have(had) a cousin who was a retired Tennessee highway patrol, he died about 15 years ago. His district covered McNairy county and he was there during the 60’s and 70’s when Pusser was sheriff so he knew him well. His opinion was that Pusser was a crook, he’d chuckle when asked about the movie and tell you that it was mostly BS. He said Pusser did not have a good working relationship with the highway patrol and would rarely co-operate with them. I have no personal knowledge since I wasn’t there, but if L.J. said it I take it as gospel that it was true.
Don’t buy it at all
