A pretty good episode, as I remember.
I think the original Star Trek TV show was the best.Shatner/Kirk was iconic. Sort of like Superman, Marshall Dillon and other heroes.
This is such a classic. New trek is just woke bullshit
In that episode Spock has an utterly ridiculous scene where he is mind-melding with the creature. Cracks me up every time.
Ah yes, the Horta. Didn’t it have hydrogen fluoride for blood?
Totally agree. And it wasn’t just the cast. The scripts were better.
The Next Generation had better special effects. That’s for sure. But I didn’t care for most of the episodes. Too many of them were just plain silly.
By the way, my post is…
As I recall... It kills to save it’s babies. Wouldn’t you?
Speaking of woke, some stations here and in Europe are digitally altering William Shatner’s iconic opening line, “where no man has gone before” to the Next Generation’s “where no one has gone before”.
Shatner found out about this, and he is pissed.

Gene Roddenberry and Rod Serling I bet could have really fed off each others imagination. I wonder if they ever looked to the other guys work for ideas?
Same here. I grew up watching Star Trek reruns in the late 70s/early 80s on WPIX channel 11 in NYC every Saturday at 6 PM.
I’ve never seen a single episode of Star Trek, and I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I remember my cousins watching it, but I just never got into it. I feel nostalgic for the old days and aim to watch the series. I’m not a big SciFi guy (Planet of the Apes was more my thing) but I’m going to give Star Trek a go.
Did the new crewman in the red tunic get killed?
Are you kidding?!
Just look at the Star Trek episode "Requiem for Methusaleh" and the 1956 movie "Forbidden Planet" (which is itself a "re-imagining" of Shakespeare's "The Tempest").
Regards,
The OG was good, but there are some good spinners off of it. My favorite is “Enterprise”.
Roddenberry’s ego would’ve gotten in the way.
