A pretty good episode, as I remember.
I think the original Star Trek TV show was the best.Shatner/Kirk was iconic. Sort of like Superman, Marshall Dillon and other heroes.
This is such a classic. New trek is just woke bullshit
In that episode Spock has an utterly ridiculous scene where he is mind-melding with the creature. Cracks me up every time.
Ah yes, the Horta. Didn’t it have hydrogen fluoride for blood?
As I recall... It kills to save it’s babies. Wouldn’t you?
Gene Roddenberry and Rod Serling I bet could have really fed off each others imagination. I wonder if they ever looked to the other guys work for ideas?
I’ve never seen a single episode of Star Trek, and I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I remember my cousins watching it, but I just never got into it. I feel nostalgic for the old days and aim to watch the series. I’m not a big SciFi guy (Planet of the Apes was more my thing) but I’m going to give Star Trek a go.
Did the new crewman in the red tunic get killed?
Some of my happiest memories are from a decade of absolute obsession with Star Trek. And some of my best friends. Anywhere you went on a business trip, all you needed was the phone number of another Trekker and you had a lovely evening planned.

My title for it has always been...
A Horta Hears a Who...
Don’t ask me why. ๐ค
This is a hoot! Thanks for the thread!
I ๐ Possum Rob!
A favorite episode of nine.
Simplifying here, but:
Silicon is right below Carbon on the periodic table, and so has similar properties (e.g., # of empty slots in the valence shell (subshells notwithstanding).
Not out of the question to have a silicon-based (rather than carbon-based) life form, given different energy environs. (At least in sci-fi)
