Toyoda was right. EV’s are crashing and burning. Literally in some cases.
The same basic idea as a diesel electric locomotive
Will Subaru finally walk away from the Boxer? Enquiring minds want to know.
So it's for EV's.
This is good news. I thought I was going to have to find a 68 Dodge Dart with a slant six, a three on the tree, and put an aftermarket fuel injection system on it for my future travels. This, with electric motor drive will put a stake through the heart of CV transmissions. The only CV transmission I want is the one that drives my 169cc scooter. I can maintain and repair that one in my garage with my tools.
The cost of repairs and maintenance on new vehicles is so ridiculous that I won’t buy one. We are back to vehicles that hit the junkyard at 100K miles because of transmission and computer issues.
The Otto Cycle rules and will rule for decades to come.
Toyota seems to have found a good solution with the Prius.
I think Toyota uses such an engine in the prius, namely, one that is most efficient in a small RPM range and doesn’t need to have a lot of torque over a wider range of RPM.
there, fixed it ...
“Toyota Wants to Use Its New Gas Engines for Everything...The upcoming family of combustion engines works with all types of drivetrains.”
indeed ... same reason oil stocks skyrocketed after the covid-collapse of the stock market and have never looked back since ... no amount of windmills and solar panels will EVER replace fossil fuel energy ...
Two things:
41 percent thermal efficiency? That’s Something
Gazoo Racing? What wacko came up with that name??

Hhmmm...we just bought a toyota hybrid ...awaiting delivery...is this similar?
I think batteries have revolutionized the bicycle industry.
Walking is about 3mph, even a slow EV bike ride is 10-12mph.
Bike paths for suburban transportation are now a realistic option in/when warm climes.
So, by adding a gasoline engine, how many more things to go wrong?
It sort-of makes sense for a vehicle that has a lot of local short trips and some longer trips. But I question the value, versus cost and weight, of electric operation for even short trips, which by definition for non-commercial use don’t normally rack up many miles.
256k miles on my Subaru Legacy 2.5GT. Toyota does has a small share with Subaru/Fuji Heavy Industries.
The flat 4 turbo and AWD are legendary. Had issues in the early years with head gaskets, but reliable as the years go on. Most of the bugs have been worked out since its been in production for so long in one form or another.
All I can say is: AMAZING VEHICLE!!!
Averaged 38mpg to & from Tennessee from Northeast IL, including over two mountain ranges (Cumberland and Smokey Mountains).
Even in ECO mode, it had monster acceleration using the electric motors to boost acceleration with the gas engine.
In Sport mode I thought I was driving a V8 the acceleration was that damn' impressive and the MPG hit in Sport mode was pretty nominal.
Toyota's had it 100% right since the beginning and I believed it when they said it years ago: HEV's are the future, EV's are not.
You don't get stranded with an HEV unless you run out of gas.
Get's about 70mpg, 0-60 in just over 4s.
A year or so after the gasoline-powered onboard battery-charged cars (not a hybrid - no mech linkage from engine to wheels; not a loco - serious battery component) are released, I foresee a sneaky little change where they introduce a streamlined version of the cars where they have quietly eliminated the E part and reduced the weight and price. They will have to come up with a snazzy name for this.
What I want is a multifuel car or truck with open source computing, software, data for all milled molds and parts; maximum use of generic hardware and software; generic open specs for everything; bonded guarantee of parts and software back-compatibility for 25 years; price quoted in gold ounces.
I would be interested in a Gen-Set for when the Texas weather knocks out the powerlines. As for a vehicle if they can offer one that isn’t an uplink to the “Social Credit Scoring” system I might be interested.
