NJ parents outraged over new law that could put them in prison for their kids’ bad behavior: ‘Snake eating its tail

The kids aren’t alright — and their parents won’t be, either!

Moms and dads in a New Jersey suburb can be tossed in prison and fined for their badly behaving children — under a bonkers new ordinance that some say strips parents of their rights and potentially sets a “dangerous precedent.”

The new law in Gloucester Township, passed in late July, is called “Minors and Parent Responsibility” and stipulates that parents will be held “accountable for public disturbances caused by” their child, and could go to jail for three months if their kids are found guilty of multiple offenses.

“Parents are feeling pretty outraged,” Alex Bougher, chair of the Bergen County chapter of parents’ rights group Moms for Liberty, told The Post Tuesday. “They’re getting attacked from every angle here.”

The ordinance is the result of a massive brawl that broke out last year among a throng of 500 minors at the Gloucester Township Day and Drone Show, according to NJ.com. Eleven people — including nine teens — were arrested. Three officers were also injured.

The juvenile offenses that fall under the new law are sweeping — there are 28 in total — with “being a disorderly person,” “immorality,” “destruction of playground equipment” and “loitering” joining the likes of assault, mugging, drunkenness and drug dealing.

“If a child is repeatedly found guilty in juvenile court, their caretaker could face up to 90 days in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,000,” Gloucester Township Police said in a recent release clarifying the law.

Police Chief David Harkins told NJ.com that the law consisted of “general legal language” and that parents would receive a warning first for the kids’ bad behavior.

“Our ordinance was actually sampled from other towns,” Harkins said, referring to the Jersey Shore’s Wildwood...

Parents are sometimes not allowed to corporally discipline. They can not physically detain/lock up. They can’t neglect by any kinda tough method. Asking for police involvement is fruitless. They barely if ever help.

Parents are not allowed the tools necessary to control minors’ behavior if they are seriously misbehaving.

How can you hold them liable? How grossly unjust.

Is spanking allowed in NJ?
If the local laws do not allow parents to discipline their kids and schools are transitioning kids and providing abortions w/o parental notification or permission then parents cannot be held responsible for not being able to prevent misbehavior. Not to mention the reading material and indoctrination at school which causes acting out.
The chicken came before the egg. The State destroyed family integrity with laws, with behavior by social services, and by means of politicized education. Now they cannot turn on a dime & blame parents.

Because discipline is now illegal and children can be removed for parental spanking.

Parents aren’t allowed to discipline kids.

Neither are teachers.

While Stateside 30 years ago I heard that children were calling Child Protective Services if they did not like being disciplined by parents. The government had already taken authority away from parents back then.

This is ridiculous.

Parents have no say over their child’s behavior after about age 13 or so. When it come to reproduction issues, no say, any age.

Try to get a child of 15 to stay home if it doesn’t want to. Parents would be arrested for imprisonment.

Try physically correcting an out of control adolescent. Police wo be on your doorstep so fast.

Try grounding a recalcitrant 14 year old female child. Allegations of sexual abuse will destroy the parents.

This is not leave it to beaver land.

Kids today go to discord reddit and other sites and they know how to figuratively burn down the house. And they have the support to do it.

I tell people who have an acting out teen to step back. Offer emancipation. One no onger has the parentsl tools to provide boundaries in the current culture.

Beware Universal Mental Health Screening

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

If the kids have a difficult home situation then this law may be protecting parents who may need counseling.

Another state's approach to possibly unhappy families.

NJ parents outraged over new law that could put them in prison for their kids’ bad behavior: ‘Snake eating its tail (8.12.25)

Here's another perspective. If qualified majority citizen voters in Illinois do not want mental healthcare screening for their children, then this issue is more evidence that the deep state Congress is not doing its constitutional duty to guarantee each state in the Union a republican form of government.

Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphasis added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Voters in every state need to come to the rescue of oppressed Illinois majority voters, likewise for voters of other activist states, by supporting Trump with a new Congress in 2025 midterm elections that will protect the voting power of all citizens.
