First female umpire in MLB history makes a total fool of herself with egregious call

Industrial feminism has been a disaster for the human race, and I’ll show you why:

Now, not that I’d do any better myself (as a woman), but I’m also not pretending that my sports aptitude is on the same playing field as male professionals. The important thing though is that this umpire has broken the glass ceiling, or whatever—the game of baseball be damned—and she can go down in history…that no one will ever care about. With this ump’s debut, the mainstream media have been running pieces about how great she did, citing her scorecard, claiming her strike accuracy rate was 88%, which happens to be the average; but I have to ask, is that average being brought down by other DEI hires? I can only assume so.

While women rightfully demand men to be kept out of their areas, they then turn around and demand inclusion in male spaces; the offense magnifies when you consider the utter detriment that women have when they foist themselves in places they shouldn’t be, like…

One call is meaningless, the stats are available, comparing her accuracy for the whole game would be more meaningful

And the announcers and players/coaches all carried the party line and how wonderful she was and what a great day it was to be on that field. Who said DEI was dead?

I think she did all right. Calling balls and strikes is one of the harder elements of umpiring. The pitches are coming in about 100 miles per hour, and they’re usually moving in any of four or five different directions, and they have to make an instant decision. Getting 93% right is acceptable.

I didn’t see the beginning of the game but watched parts of it. At the end the announcers were saying she did a good job. I don’t know if they just felt that they had to say that.

Didn’t see it, but I can imagine that she was as nervious as h*ll, and will not settle into the position until she’s had a few mess ups.

Current rulebook strike zone is a rectangular prism (3D box). New automated strike zone next year will be a 2D rectangle over the left-right centerline of the plate. Quite different.

Aside: For this video, I doubt the the camera characteristics and single angle can settle the question.

There is nothing in Rules of MLB that state that an umpire must be male.

Did they start her out at home plate? I would think it would be normal to work around the bases first, then do home plate. Seems like that would be the most pressure an umpire can face, especially on their first day at that level.

Interesting. So if the ball enters the prism, but then exits, is it a strike? Or does it have to finish in the prism?

Maybe depends on umpire!

Seriously, it would seem to be a strike if touching anywhere in the rectangular prism. Staying completely in the 3D box over the plate would be batting practice.

Think of all the ‘low strikes’ or balls in the dirt, or pitches that ‘drop off the table’.

Yeah, I just changed my mind, and we should keep it human, tennis as well. I was just thinking of how tennis was better with John McEnroe shouting “You have GOT to be kidding me!” When challenging a call.

Pawol called 93% of balls and strikes correctly, according to Umpire Scorecards, which places her in the bottom third of umpire performance this season, but very much in line with her peers.

The quote is from the USA Today article. Is the bottom third really "in line with her peers"? At best, it means that 66.7% of her peers are better than her.

I'd cut her some slack though as this was her debut. I suspect that she would improve.
