Tennessee death row inmate cries out in pain during lethal injection after state refused to deactivate defibrillator implant
A Tennessee death row inmate cried out in pain after the state refused to deactivate his implanted defibrillator as he was executed for murdering his girlfriend and her two young daughters.
Byron Black, 69, was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m., about 10 minutes after receiving a lethal injection at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, according to state correctional officials.

There is nothing in the Constitution that guarantees a painless death.
The penalty of death should be painful. Traditionally the prisoner was hanged. We should go back to that. Putting them to sleep is treating them like pets.

"I was always a fan of Ed Ames."
So was my mother. We watched him in the Daniel Boone tv series. The Ames Brothers had some good hits.

They did a very cute novelty tune called "The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane". Funny and cute.

You are correct. The hospital should have known that the defibrillator would start going off as the heart slowed down and would keep activating even after death. Each time it went off it’s like getting kicked in the chest by a mule. So the hospital, while refusing to deactivate it was actually contributing to additional pain and suffering to the murderer.

I remember that one, and "Rag Mop" is another favorite of mine.

I’ve had the unfortunate displeasure of having to euthanize one of my horses and I can tell you that it’s instantaneous. If they can do that to a horse instantly, it can be done to a human - instantly.

In the movie "Sin CIty" the character Marv handled his execution by elecric chair admirably:
Priest #2: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...
Marv: Would you get a move on already? I haven't got all night.
Warden: Hit it.

(Guard pulls the switch) ZZZzzzAP!
(blood pouring from his mouth, after the first shock from the electric chair)

Marv: Is that the best you can do, you pansies?
[They shock him again]

I don’t remember if I ever saw that movie, but checked out the cast, and found that Mickey Rourke played Marv.

You don’t remove an AICD. You just turn it off with a magnet. If the medical people didn’t want to deactivate it, it was probably because of the legal issues that would arise if the execution had been botched and he survived with some sequelae that weren’t present prior to the event.

We should switch over to a national method of the Guillotine. In the town square, and let the people gawk for an hour before, and until sunset.

I was going by what written in the article.

The death penalty is unjust double jeopardy - Someone already paid the ultimate price of death for what he did.
Except the guy that owes the debt isn't the one who paid the price. You think it would be more just to charge the taxpayers to keep him locked up for 20 years? More just to let him out on parole for "good behavior", then he goes and charges someone else again?
