The death penalty is unjust double jeopardy - Someone already paid the ultimate price of death for what he did.

Except the guy that owes the debt isn't the one who paid the price. You think it would be more just to charge the taxpayers to keep him locked up for 20 years? More just to let him out on parole for "good behavior", then he goes and charges someone else again?

The debt to God - punishment of death - was paid 2000 years ago and is an invalid and unjust imposition of man upon man.

The debt to man - protection of others, deterrence, or repayment, but not death - is a valid consequence man can validly and justly impose on man.
