Ah, a UK newspaper publishing a "debunking" article on something Catholic. What will they think of next!

When Britain turns Muslim, while they'll have to abandon liberty, equality, art, and literature, they'll at least be able to maintain and nurture their traditional hatred for Catholicism.

Researchers have used forensic geometric modeling and image processing to reverse map a 3D human body from shroud data so not sure what this guy is talking about.

He seems to be several decades behind the curve on sindonology.

If the shroud is real, why did more than a thousand years pass before it emerged, and how did it get to Turin, which is nearly 2,000 miles from Jerusalem?

There is an existing provenance that attempts to explain the so-called lost years.

Passing through the cloth at the moment of transition would be equivalent of draping the body lying stationary.

I don't think so. The idea I had in mind was more like this: if Jesus had left an image on a wall—perhaps when he entered the locked upper room (speculation, of course)—then the image might resemble a kind of photograph imprinted on a vertical surface.

By analogy, if his body passed upward through the cloth at the moment of transition, it could leave a two-dimensional image rather than the distortions you'd expect from a cloth draped over a stationary 3D body.

That’s the idea I was working with in my original comment.

Obviously it was 3D printed.

I am not a ‘religious’ person in terms of belonging to any particular church or sect; but I’ve been very interested in the Shroud.

But I don’t think of it as ‘Catholic’ at all. I believe that Jesus meant His message for us all, and if some material thing that was connected to His life might have survived, I should think all Christians would be curious about it.

I have no idea what you mean. A substantive response would be useful.

I don’t care if you accept the shroud as Christ’s burial cloth or not; but simply condemning something you know little about doesn’t seem very intelligent.

Jesus never mentioned trinkets, bones of saints, or His drinking cup. He never directed people to pray to His mother.

So, you haven't made a deep study of it...

Did not Jesus say "This is the cup of my blood"?

The Shroud of Turin touched the body of the crucified Christ. It holds the blood of the crucified Christ. It has the true image of the crucified Christ.

Who could look upon this relic and not be moved to awe and tears for the man/God that gave his life for those who sin and deserve damnation.

That is the purpose of relics. To open the hearts of men to the realization that they need redemption and don't deserve it without Christ. "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe" But many do need to see. The Shroud is proof that Jesus knew that and gave us the Shroud.

Did not Jesus honor his mother. Did he not, at the wedding of Cana, say "what is this to me woman, my time has not yet come" and then did not Jesus honor her wishes and perform his first miracle?

When we pray to Mary, we ask Mary to ask her son to honor her wishes again in our favor.

Is praying to Mary for intercession necessary for redemption?

No.

Does it negate redemption?

No.

Might it improve your prayer life and your life in general?

I believe in my case, yes.

My family and I attended a three day seminar on the Shroud and there is no way I would or could say it's a fraud.

The global left has been denouncing the Shroud as a fraud for a long time, although they've never been able to prove it. What they are really hoping for is "tell a big lie often enough and eventually most people will believe it." Marx or Lenin or Goebbels or someone came up with that strategy.

This is one reason why people should be interested in actually learning something about the studies that have been done, instead of just ignorantly rejecting it out of hand:

Yeah, but they’ve never come up with how it’s a fraud. They just throw out pseudo scientific reasons why it’s a fraud but can never show how it was done using Thirteen century technology.

Thank you

My apologetics are improving.

But they still need a lot of work.

I don’t care if you accept the shroud as Christ’s burial cloth or not

The burial cloth is totally irrelevant to the ENTIRE Salvation and worship issue. It serves no purpose. I don't care if it is the actual shroud used with Jesus' burial.

but simply condemning something you know little about doesn’t seem very intelligent.

I know enough about it AND about the commands made by Jesus Christ to know that the shroud is a waste of your Christian time. Jesus commanded you and me to Evangelize, not speculate over things that no have bearing on Salvation. There are people out in the world who are dying! What does Jesus worry about more, that old cloth or the souls of those people who have never heard the Gospel?

Go on, tell me that all of the time spent on that stupid cloth is more important than Christ's own "Great Commission". Then you can go on to "How many angels can dance on the head of a pen".

Did not Jesus say "This is the cup of my blood"?

Oh, for crying out loud!!! Do you think it was the cup that mattered, or the shedding of His blood?

It is the Holy Spirit that brings Faith to a person, not those toys.

“They hadn’t done the burial preparation properly because of the approach of Passover.”

Yes. That is mentioned, but the one pounds of preparation compound was finished.

The cloth was mentioned. And I can argue from omission just as well as you did. If a shroud was wrapped over his body, why would they need a cloth over his face?

John Campbell, the medical doctor many of us came to know through his Youtube videos on Covid, has done a series of videos on the Shroud:
