“That means they should be paying the league to play.”
Maybe some bake sales would help?

I think it ruins the experience for the fans due to analytics. Now professional athletes are robots. They are overmanaged by their coaches/executives.
We'll like to see spontaneity in professional games but we are not really seeing that anymore.
All the leagues are catering to gamblers. So they do not care about what the game looks like to a typical fan who is not gambling.
I think it's only a matter of time before we'll hear about a huge scandal similar to the Black Sox Scandal in 1919.
For all we know, it may have happened already but they're covering it up.
“Commercialized” implies for profit, which has never applied to the GYNBA. Your point, however, is spot on.
I don’t want to get all schmaltzy and revisionist, but a one of countless white suburban Philadelphia kids back then, we truly didn’t care if Dr J, Garry Maddox, Harold Carmichael, or any other sports star was black. We wanted to WIN.
I suspect wokism MAY enter into fandom nowadays for the youngsters. But, again, we want to WIN…I haven’t seen any such commentary on Bleeding Green Nation.
With the relatively strong inroads Trump made with minorities AND youths, I am prayerful that we can once again see great players as great players and not black or white or brown people first.
I mean, let’s not be stupid…Saquon is black. Bryce Harper is white.
But they’re great because of who they are.
And the Patriots and Dallas still suck.
You’ll have to educate me on the gambling dimension. We’ve always had gambling. What’s changed and how is it impacting the games today?
This was one of the most brutal killings I have ever heard of at the time. Inhuman animals committed that crime. It was one of the worst until two I’ve read about recently, one was the cartel Auschwits in Mexico and the other I won’t even discuss here unless someone wants to PM me.
Hannity had an even more gruesome pic of this girl Holly in the hospital with all of her injuries.
You used to have to see a bookie and that was somewhat difficult to do.
Now it's legal and everyone is using their apps to gamble.
Several pitchers have been suspended so far for their involvement in prop bets.
They get paid if the first pitch during the 3rd inning is a ball (instead of a strike).
Too easy to make money out of that.
Indian Casinos, and computer gambling online.
They hate her like the left hates Sydney Sweeny. It's irrational.
Julius Erving is my favorite all time player. One reason is that he NEVER argued calls with the refs. He always said that the call had been made so no point in arguing about it.
Yeah...it’s called ‘mob mentality’ and it gets out of control quickly, to the point where only those outside the mob can see the irrationality of it all.
For second-class universities, UCLA and USC, to sideline Stanford, Cal, Washington State and Oregon State in search of the big money, demonstrated just how important athletics now are. Given recent reports, they are the tail that wags the higher-education dog. Previously, this had been especially true at the Univesity of Nike (AKA Oregon), but the California regents could have halted the madness, and did not.
WNBA experienced players mightily strive for mediocrity and will take down anyone who shows some talent, especially if the talented one is white. WNBA is the Colored League, doncha know?!
Yet when a team (the Philadelphia Eagles) plays to their strength (the running game), the team, coach and especially the quarterback get continually disrespected on all the major roundtable programs. So 'Yes' on strategy, but only if it emphasizes passing and gaudy QB stats.
... if the league should survive long enough. That was the solution chosen by NHL expansion teams when the league doubled in size in the mid-60's. The existing talent was on the "Original 6" teams, and very diluted with the expansion teams.
Old time hockey demanded that a scorer had to be ready to drop gloves when challenged. That was fine for teams like Boston, Chicago and Detroit that were built for that. But teams with thinner talent found that they had to protect that talent with "enforcers" -- or if you prefer "goons." The Philadelphia Flyers were emblematic of that approach... but all the expansion teams did it (just less well).
The Indiana Fever -- if they are smart -- will ditch their reluctant head coach and find a coach that is willing to protect Clark. They can remake the Detroit Pistons from the 80's but they probably wouldn't have to go that far. Get a banger for the front court. Pair Caitlyn with Sophie Cunningham on a regular basis. Probably a couple of bench players who can play rough.
I remember this. This story still haunts me when I think about it, which is often.
