Pee-wee Herman’s iconic red bicycle to be permanently displayed at the Alamo
New York Post ^ | 7/20/25 | Chris Nesi

The red-and-white souped-up Schwinn bicycle made famous in the 1985 film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” will soon have a new permanent home in what is arguably one of the most unusual movie tie-ins in the history of celluloid.

The bike — which served as the MacGuffin in the Tim Burton-directed cult favorite — will be permanently displayed in the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum in San Antonio to mark the 40th anniversary of the movie’s theatrical release.

I watched the doc on him, honestly, I kinda liked him, did not find him to be a bad fellow. FWIW

Thanks, I guess you're referring to the docu-series "Pee-wee as Himself"?
I'll check it out.

For all the others in this thread who don't understand the connection between Pee-wee Herman and the Alamo, check out the film "Pee-wee's Big Adventure".
It's appropriate for all age levels, despite the trouble the actor got into later in life.

Paul Rubens ("Pee Wee Herman") had a sad and tragic life, despite having made a lot of people laugh and feel good for a little while. RIP.

His father was something else entirely:

His mother was a teacher. His father was an automobile salesperson who had flown for Britain's Royal Air Force and for the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II, and later became one of the founding pilots of the Israeli Air Force during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. An Orthodox Jew, he was one of five Jewish pilots to fly against Arab forces in smuggled fighter planes.

When I think of the Alamo, I don’t think of Pewee

I think of Ozzy Osbourne.

“Name 2 people shot in the back of the head at a theater.”

One of them was sitting in the seat in front of Pee Wee Herman (Sarasota Florida)

I find that a lot of comedians tend to suffer from depression, and that is how they cope with it. Robin Williams was another example.

Somehow I just can’t see the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (the former curators of the Alamo) approving this.

I’m missing the tie-in between The Alamo and Pee Wee Herman.

I just visited the Alamo for the first time on July 3, the day before the terrible floods in Kerrville, just 60 miles to the north of San Antonio.

The museum is an incredible collection of artifacts from the battle, contemporary items that were not necessarily from the Alamo but were typical of the weaponry and uniforms of the forces at the Alamo, and letters and documents by and about the people who died at the Alamo.

Phil Collins of the rock band Genesis fame became an avid collector of Alamo-related memorabilia after visiting the Alamo during a concert tour, and he donated his entire collection to the Alamo museum several years ago.

There is a small section of the museum dedicated to the cultural impacts of the Alamo, both in film, the military, and other aspects. They have movie posters from Alamo-related films starring John Wayne, Billybob Thornton, and others. They have musical instruments dedicated to the Alamo, anniversary memorabilia, exposition artifacts, bells from Navy vessels named after the Alamo, pennants from military units stationed at bases named after the Alamo (Iraq and Afghanistan), photos of dignitaries who visited the Alamo, and perhaps now, the bicycle that was the plot device of a Pee-Wee Herman movie centered around the Alamo.

So George Bush III’s plan to turn the Alamo into a tourist trap is still moving forward? Have they built the planned bar yet?

And Davey Crocket’s coon skin cap — from the Disney Show.

I think people are thinking this is “in the Alamo” and not the Visitor’s Center, which is full of movie and music memorabilia.

. . . despite the trouble the actor got into later in life.

I was LIVING in California when that happened. Today, they would proclaim him a hero for coming out and normalizing that behavior.

The museum even has a ceremonial replica rifle that was awarded to Fess Parker for his portrayal of Davy Crockett. Parker donated that rifle to the museum.

I think people are thinking this is “in the Alamo”

While I knew that the only part of the Alamo that is still standing is the chapel building and some of the barracks that were alongside it, I was surprised to see that the whole Alamo mission complex covered about three acres of land (120,000 sq. ft.). They have a scale diarama of the original fort where they talk about the battle and what happened where.

To see a virtual display of the entire Alamo fort complex superimposed over the current area of San Antonio, check out this site: www.thealamo.org Digital Battlefield.
