Researchers have identified the oldest known glacier ice in the European Alps, originating from the last Ice Age.
US-based Desert Research Institute (DRI) conducted a detailed analysis of a 131 feet (40-meter) ice core extracted from Mont Blanc's Dôme du Goûter glacier in the Alps.
This ice core provides the oldest known record of aerosols and climate in the European Alps, stretching back at least 12,000 years to the last Ice Age...
The ice core showed a 3-degree Celsius temperature disparity between the last Ice Age and the current Holocene Epoch.
The phosphorus record in the ice core also unveiled a 12,000-year history of regional vegetation changes. It illustrates the spread of forests during the warmer early-to-mid Holocene, followed by their decline due to the rise of agriculture and industry.
Furthermore, the ice core provided key insights into past atmospheric conditions.
Sea salt records indicated stronger westerly winds off Western Europe during the last Ice Age, leading to higher sea salt deposition.
These sea salt aerosols are major climate drivers, influencing regional climate by scattering solar radiation and impacting cloud properties.
Even more dramatically, during the last Ice Age, dust aerosol levels were a striking eight times higher than in the Holocene.
This contradicts previous climate models, highlighting the role of Saharan dust plumes in Europe's past.

Men with my Y-DNA haplogroup were in Europe by the time of the Last Glacial Maximum, a bit earlier than this. So women trying to make themselves attractive to them caused the glaciers to melt? Something else to feel guilty about....
