President Zelensky has an unlikely ally in the White House: Melania Trump.
The first lady, who grew up in the former Yugoslavia, has been reminding her husband of the deadly toll of Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian cities and is thought to have played a role in convincing the president to sign off the delivery of Patriot air defence missiles to Kyiv this week.

Her interest in the Ukraine war can be explained by her background. Born behind the Iron Curtain in 1970, in the former Yugoslavia, Melania has previously described her admiration for Ronald Reagan, the president who helped end the Cold War.

Mary Jordan, author of The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump, said: “It [Melania’s fondness for Ukraine] is not surprising at all given she grew up in the former Yugoslavia, a country with no love for Russia.” She added: “She has more experience than other people in the cabinet trying to get her point across.”
According to Jordan, Melania’s father Viktor Knavs, 81, continues to travel back and forth to Slovenia, where Melania was raised, meaning she is kept abreast of European politics. “Her home country is all in for Ukraine and people over there are appalled that the United States would suddenly not be arming Ukraine any more,” she said.

Despite the legions of national security advisers and foreign policy analysts at Trump’s disposal, it appears his wife may be the most important voice of all.
“Trump listens to certain people on certain things,” says Jordan. “He particularly listens to people who are really close to him. And especially if their last name is Trump.”

Who knew Melania was a closet Victoria Nuland?
If Melania had lived in Serbia 25 years ago, she might think differently about the ‘good intentions’ of the Neocons, no matter what country they were screwing with.
Geez. The Brits have really gone off the rails. I wish they would mind their own business and start working on getting their own craphole back from the foreign “refugees”.
Boy, are they reaching.
one need only have Putin stab you in the back multiple times to learn the truth of the man.
And to veer off a little, she would also know that during those terrible years of Communist rule, American Democrats supported the leaders of the USSR.
ZEEPER FOLLIES PINGLIST!(((PING!)))
The Russia-stronk advocates back then hated Nancy Reagan, too.
Yugoslavia. Russia. Ukraine. They’re all the same to a Western Times reporter. Her “people” where getting bombed so she influenced Trump. LOL.
Where are you now that President Trump is continuing to provide whole hearted support to Ukraine.
I know. You support terror and Russia is a terrorist nation.
Bad you. Bad You all
The state of affairs; Trump tells a minor anecdotal story, the whole world goes nuts. On X the liberal idiots were claiming that Melania is running the country.
“There’s times I’d get home. I’d say, ‘First lady, I had three most wonderful talk with Vladimir. I think we’re finished.’ And then I’ll turn on the television, or she’ll say to me one time, ‘Wow, that’s strange because they just bombed a nursing home,’” Trump recalled in another conversation. “I’d say, ‘What?’”
Maybe she shouldn’t watch CNN for her news.
The short answer is “no”.
Pro Russian Freepers deny all this. The brutality expressed by Russia is to them the way of the world, a good thing. To have a safe haven Russia must continue to be free to practice the brutal inhumane terror according to them.
Yezh,right.
She probably has some degree of influence, but I’m sure Pres. Trump was getting tired of Putin’s lies and would have made the same decision anyway.
There are pro-Russia freepers?! Are they nuts?
Ukraine is probably the fourth largest arms producer in the world, after the United States, the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.
In WWII, the US converted auto and other factories into arms plants.
Russia almost certainly searches out:
1. CNC machine tools and takes them and the buildings housing them out of war production,
2. computers used to fight the war and blasts them and the buildings housing them into bits,
3. drone electronics and cell phones used to fight the war and blasts the buildings housing them into bits.
All Ukrainian war production & management should be moved out of Ukrainian cities and into small buildings dispersed deep in conifer forests far from Russian missile and drone bases.
The Ukrainian cellphone and Internet systems should be taken out of service so the Russians can’t use them for targeting.
Yup, six months of Putin lies
“I am very disappointed with President Putin. I thought he was a man of his word, but he is bombing everyone,” Trump told journalists at Andrews Air Force Base.
“He wants to take all(Ukraine) of it,” Trump reportedly told French President Emmanuel Macron after the call, according to Axios sources familiar with the discussion.
“We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” Trump blustered in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. “He’s very nice all of the time, but it turns out to be meaningless,” he complained.
"He talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening. But there's a little bit of a problem there. I don't like it," Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews outside of Washington.
