A beloved Manhattan bodega cat was horrifically mauled to death by two pit bulls last week as the dogs’ heartless female owner and pals “watched and cheered,” animal rescuers claimed to The Post.
Tragic adorable tabby Freddy was attacked around 9 p.m. Friday outside Michelle Flowers, where he lived, in Washington Heights, according to volunteer rescuers with Cat Collective NY, who said they looked at surveillance video and spoke with witnesses.
The pit bulls’ owner and pals then smoked, danced and ate food while taking photos and mimicking the grisly scene, the group told The Post.
“Someone deliberately set dogs on a defenseless cat while people watched and cheered,” said Dan Rimada of Bodega Cats of New York — calling the incident pure “evil.”
While the store was closed and its owners were home during the attack, local residents who saw the gruesome event alerted a local feeder with Cat Collective, which in turn informed the flower-shop-bodega owners, who had rescued Freddy in 2020.

Throw God out of your country and guess who comes in.
Slow news day?
This sort of thing happens all the time. Especially in rural areas, like where I live. It’s a “young people” thing. A hundred years ago it was beyond common. And a thousand years ago>? Fuggetaboutit.
We use cats where I live - a lot of them - to keep mice out of barns, etc. They are also the most common form of road kill.
It’s nothing to do with God. It’s feral black people. Where’s that stupid Yogi and BooBoo cartoon?
Not all rural areas have human animals like this.
Yep. We had our ninja kitties too. Had a massacre of ninja kitties in ‘85 when a couple of coyotes got into the barn and killed all of the babies. Mama cat fought to the death. One hell of a fight. Dad got the coyotes the next day. Justice for the Ninja Kitties!!!
Rural Amish, or just sick people in general? I can see not liking cats, and culling them with a .22 rifle or something along those lines. Letting a couple of pitbulls have a go at it while you watch in enjoyment is a special kind of messed up.
Some people get a thrill out of bullying something weaker than themselves, or going out of their way to destroy something of beauty or a precious quality.
Think of the idle idiots who will see a line of sapling trees freshly planted in a downtown area, for the purpose of making that public area a nicer place to be. Some will purposely bend the sapling back, until it snaps off, just because they can. Not new behavior at all.
The headline and excerpt seem to be at odds with one another with regard to the owner. As I read the headline, the owner was present. The excerpt suggests the owners were not present.
There is no mention in the excerpt about the ethnicity of the dog owners and crowd.
Pit Bulls were bred for fighting. Pit bulls are dangerous to both people and animals. I think all Pit Bulls should be castrated or neutered and the breed thereby eliminated. There are many excellent, loving dog breeds that perform all the needs one might reasonably want.
Pure wickedness.
The dogs’ owner was the one present.
That is just how the Amish roll.
Called ANARCHY. Get used to it. It’s the new deepstate national socialists tactic.
Not all rural areas have human animals like this.
Mainly, we just try not to get too attached to animals that may get hit by a car or eaten by a Hawk.
I hate people.
That’s a pretty brutish view. We’ve had animal cruelty laws for over a century now. Yes, nature has lots of killing in it, but that’s no excuse for accepting animal cruelty.
"We got cute lil' pitties".
What a terrible story. I wish Freddy’s owners had kept him in.
Yeah. I”m with you on that. A lot of it really is just cultural stuff. Cock fighting used to be a big thing in a lot of areas and still is in some areas. I’m big on treating animals as if God put me in charge of them.
i.e. be kind, and even if I’m gonna eat one, end its life like throwing a switch - humanely.
Frankly, that’s the way I want to go. When I took that second breath of anesthesia before heart surgery two years ago I knew that if I didn’t survive the surgery that would have been my last moment before I woke up in the hearafter - and I was ready for it.
BTW, I shot a Robin with my new BB gun when I was in 6th grade (1966). It haunted me for quite a while. But I know other people have different sensibilities about animals. I treat them the way I think they should be treated, and I (and God) grand others the freedom to treat them the way they think they should be treated.
