Property taxes are nothing but strong arm robbery!

If only the president had the ability to do anything about this. Unfortunately he doesn’t.

I wish. Here in the Interior of Alaska, a huge portion of that tax burden is on property owners. Every time local government wants to do something, the property owners foot the bill.
We need a flat tax across the nation, dang it!

I’d like to at least see a freeze on property tax increases for retirees.

As an example, where I live there are lake properties with values that have skyrocketed over the years, with seniors who made the purchase decades ago now literally being taxed out of their homes.

Property taxes are NOT a federal issue.

“I don’t recall the reason why, but apparently they couldn’t legislate eliminating the tax altogether.”

Changing existing laws would be subject to filibuster which require 60 votes to override.

There was some sort of conspiracy theory out there about ‘property taxes’ and something to do with the British Crown.

Here in Texas, you have school superintendents in districts with multiple huge sports venues featuring jumbotron video scoreboards claiming it costs $70K per year to educate a student. They need to be fiscally starved.

“Not sure how that will work in Texas.”

It will benefit residents in high property tax school districts like Houston, Dallas, and Austin, who will no longer be required to subsidize poorer rural districts through the property tax recapture system.

That pesky 10th amendment. We can’t have it both ways.

I wish that Trump would stop saying “no tax on Social Security.” Any reduction in taxes for seniors would be seen as a positive, but not if they have been promised that they would pay NO TAXES.

We lost seats in the midterms in 2018 because of something about the deductibility of the SALT tax. This time a lot of people are going to be angry when they find out that their Social Security will still be taxed even if not as much as before.

A $6000 deduction in income, if someone is in a 20% tax bracket, is a $1200 deduction in taxes. Trump knows the difference. He needs to start explaining to people why he could not do the full “no taxes on Social Security” instead of over promising something that will not happen.

>>Not sure how that will work in Texas. It is the major funding source for publik screwels.

Get rid of public “schools”, problem solved.

“He signed the big beautiful bill which neglected to have this in it. “

Neglected? It could never be in the bill.

“It’s too late.”

Why is it too late? Trump still has 3 1/2 years.

“Police Power:
This is the state’s authority to regulate behavior and enforce order within its territory to protect the public’s health, safety, morals, and general welfare. It includes things like zoning laws, building codes, and environmental regulations.

Taxing Power:
This is the power to levy taxes, which is a distinct power granted to both the federal government and the states by the Constitution.”

At the local level it is straight up communism. The State owns and controls all property and persons as community property.

The fact that property appraisals have become purely arbitrary and are not based on market value as much as the wish lists sent to appraisal boards by taxing entities, and that state-lwvel judges who derive their salaries from taxes refuse to hear a case involving taxation make a sto g argument to the contrary.

“Why doesn’t he clean up the income tax process and put it on a post card like he promised. “

We don’t have the 60 votes needed in the senate.

You don’t really own your home ever because of property taxes.

Exactly. However, even if Trump were able to do this , keep in mind that your annual real estate tax bill is not just “real estate”. There are school taxes and other municipal taxes included in that bill which will remain. That’s what we learned here in Florida after seeing the DeSantis plan.
