Our oldest daughter will be 29 in November. She has a wide circle of friends, most of whom are scattered across the country, so Facebook is how they stay in touch.
Let’s just say her voting for Trump this last November hasn’t gone over well -- at all. And she’s having a very rough time of it. Really struggling. Partially because that’s how lefties do you, but also because she’s genuinely trying to understand them and, crucially, have herself be understood. She’s highly intelligent, extremely articulate, and very careful with her language, but she’s still getting what we old-timers would call “flamed.” It’s hurting her heart enormously and as a result, it’s hurting mine, her mother.
And I don’t know how to help her. I’m struggling. She’s going through her foul progressive baptism like I did nearly twenty years ago with the coming of Obama on the scene. Back then, I had no idea how they’d lie, cheat, scheme, and steal, every minute of every day, without ceasing, without remorse, without, seemingly, any sense of fatigue. I had no idea how widespread it was. Oh, I knew the media and academia were hopelessly liberal, but I had no idea how poisonously progressive they were. I had no idea how intractable they were. Immune to any kind of reason or, as social media likes to call them, “receipts.”
One of our daughter’s most trafficked Facebook posts was one heavy with “receipts.” She provided all the proof any reasonable person would need to understand her thinking regarding the matter at hand. She used the Washington Post, The New York Times, etc. Outlets they hold dear (mostly). Nope. No good. They responded with “the feels.” She even asked, specifically, to please respond with links of their own, because she was open to their

My daughter is 35 and one of four known conservatives in her leftist utopia college town. She doesn’t wear MAGA hats but she also doesn’t hide it.
She’s had to cut loose a couple friends over it. She’s very involved in her church, which is a very good one that attracts a lot of college students. She said way too many have drank the leftist Kool-Aid. It’s sad that their twisted politics overshadow their Christian beliefs.
I’m of the firm belief that one cannot be both a Christian and an active democrat.
I have liberal friends I can still talk to and have great debates with. I have others I haven’t spoken to in years because they are far beyond any reasoning. I don’t waste my time trying to convert them anymore. I just stopped talking to them. Even blocked a couple. It’s just not worth the angst.
Tell your daughter to get off Facebook and never look back.
True friends will keep in touch, fair weather friends aren’t friends.

The answer is obvious. IF she is so bothered by other people’s comments to her comments, then stop posting comments on social media. Social media is the gutter of life. It’s where nasty people go to zero in on the weak who can’t handle nastiness. The more bothered a pe4son is by it,the more they get singled out.
Facebook attracts the worst of the worst. Sh3 is opening herself up to them, and nothing good can come from it if she can’t handle immature people who hate her because she isn’t a progressive/communist.
There is NO making nice with the left.

It can all be summed up thusly: IF a liberal thinks that someone somewhere is having fun or a good time, it engages said liberal to no end, and they will do everything in their power to ruin the life of the person who dared 5o have a good time.

My daughter went through the same disruption of ‘friends’.
I’m sure we could all tell stories about people in our families who are liberal. The problem there, is that it’s very difficult to just cut members of your family out of your life, as you can do with friends who are insufferable.
Not everyone in my extended family is a Free Republic type conservative.
Years ago I made the mistake of wearing an NRA hat to a meeting and got taken to the woodshed by a couple “friends”. Big argument about gun control. I held my own against both of them. I still remained friends. Years later, guess what? One has become a gun owner and 2nd Amendment advocate, and the other has pretty much divorced himself from everyone. I’m not taking credit for any of it. I very much respected the friend who dis-associated himself from everyone.
It’s too bad that liberals let their emotions get in the way of common sense.

You do not walk into a den full of deaf rattle snakes and tell them that you are open to their feelings or views or whatever! The dnakes do NOT care what you think! They can’t hear you! They are demon driven, and therefore closed to the truth.
The religious aspect of the issue is that They may not have consciously given themselves over to the evil one, but they have certainly done so by ignoring every good and decent thing that the holy spirit has brought into their lives, and they are —almost at— the point of no return. The evil one has blinded them to the truth because they have wil.ingly allowed him to blind them whether they realize it or not.
These folks are the ones that the Bible speaks of when it tells people not to throw pearls before swine. (Or dogs, which in the old t3stament meant snarling 1/2 wild dogs that do not trust anyone and who will attack anyone trying to be nice to them- that description perfectly fits with liberals on social media who are beyond helping) sure, 1 or 2 —might— be saved, but the rest of the pack will tear anyone trying to help them to shreds.
IF the daughter can understand this, then her perspective will change, and she will better be able to handle the snarling attacks if she still wishes to post in the gutter social media.
I also have relatives who are strong democrats. Thankfully I don’t see them that much.
Don’t bother trying to understand or argue with leftists. It is not possible.
Sadly, this the best solution; but, it sure does narrow the field.
My two favorite phrases for dealing with the radically petulant and arrogant liberal 6y.o. adult adolescents when the spew their S and B are “DON’T CARE”and “CANT MAKE ME”. Q:what’s the difference between a petulant 6y.o. and a radical leftist? A: age.
“at least they apologized”. Sure. So do wife beaters, abusive drunks and violent addicts. My personal philosophy is “once and done”. Has worked well for over half a century.
I did the same. When Trump first came on the political scene, I attempted to debate with a couple of friends on FB. The people I knew were difficult to reach, but still respectful. We take occasional jabs at each other, in person. But mostly avoid politics. On FB, it was whacked out crazy people, who were FB friends of my friends who caused problems. They were downright frightening. These are some seriously mentally ill people.
Since then, I just avoid politics like the plague on FB. But, people know where I stand.
I don’t either, both are personal. Money and sex, too.
My 14 y/o granddaughter’s mother (my very sweet daughter-in-law) is Puerto Rican and her dad (my son) is well... WHITE, goes to a school where the predominate racial element is Indian (from India).
The “Indians”, who are her friends, with the help of the lovely progressive education system, have completely convinced her that white people are the evil in society. She has turned on her father (my son) and her evil, white grandparents (me and hubby). She will hardly talk to any of us and spends her vacation time in Puerto Rico with Abuelo and Abuela.
Makes me sick. The whole of society is demon infested.
This young woman needs to understand that she’s dealing with a cult—not in name, but in behavior. These so-called “friends” have been thoroughly indoctrinated. They’re not friend material, even to each other. Their mindset is toxic, and the emotional damage they inflict is both real and, at times, seemingly intentional.
The lesson here is painful but valuable: anyone who will abandon you with malice over a difference of opinion was never truly your friend. It’s time to recognize that and move on.
In truth, she’s lucky—better to see their true nature now than after becoming more deeply entangled. And it’s a blessing that she has a mother who sees clearly and can help her make sense of what’s happening.
K-12 trains them to be demonic.
