President Donald Trump told reporters before leaving the White House Tuesday for his visit to the new ICE detention center in the Everglades, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” by state officials, that if immigrants housed there find themselves near an aggressive gator, they should run away in a zigzag pattern.

Serpentine, Shel, SERPENTINE!
🎶Momma told me not to zig
Momma told me not to zag
That ain’t the way to outrun…Nooo!
Straight is the way to outrun…🎶
My experience with alligators is you can’t out run them over a short distance. I think they will attempt to bluff you off on land. They may attack you unannounced however in the water.
30 MPH on land. Faster in water. (Per scientist in Newsmax.)
If they are an escaping illegal invader I suggest they drop to the ground and play dead.
“Serpentine, Shel, SERPENTINE!”
I was just thinking the same thing - LOL!
We have bears in California. Too bad they don’t have a short running capacity.
That works with bears too.
If a gator is after you, climb a tree...
While a freshman at the University of Florida we were sitting around the dorm lobby and debated whether an Alligator could catch a dog in Florida Field (the football stadium). We called a professor and (I) was surprised that he answered and settled the debate. Yes; Alligators are very fast in a burst but have poor lateral movement. So actually Trump is mostly right. Changing directions can be a good strategy.
You are the winner!
Just outside the fence there are no gators, btw. Depending on the time of year the immediate area can be a desert. But the swamps and waterholes nearby have some monsters. Also, beware the Swamp Ape!
The President demonstrated zig zagging...to make his point.
Peter Doocy was on “Fox and Friends” this morning and said his dad had sent him a clip from a movie showing someone running in a zig-zag pattern.
“You should run in the opposite direction as fast as you can, and in straight a line as possible.”
Opposite of what . . . opposite of the direction of travel of the gator?
Wouldn’t this put you running in a straight line toward the gator?
Flip the gator and rub it’s belly. They go to sleep.
LOL.
I shouted Serpentine and my wife said “huh”?
Had to explain it. She didn’t remember the movie.
Give team Gator time
