If you’re on a mission to live longer (and stronger!), you probably know that regular exercise plays an undeniable role in longevity. Walking and strength training in particular have a ton of benefits that can help keep you movin’ and groovin’ for years to come—but is one of them better at adding healthy years to your lifespan? And how should you balance walking and strength training to create a holistic routine?
Those questions were recently raised by Blue Zones, an organization committed to researching worldwide longevity. Via the Instagram account, the org posted about how if you want to live to 100, walking every day is better than going to the gym three or four times per week.

Hubby and I walk every day. Sometimes only 30 minutes, but most often around 45 minutes. We’ve been averaging 3.6 miles a day for 4 years, when we first started doing this. So roughly 4.5 hours per week. The doctors are very happy with us.
Now, I’m also going to say, I’m not interested in living to 100 if my mind isn’t there with me. Hopefully, this exercise, plus housework and yardwork, will be beneficial in keeping our minds healthy, too.

It might even cure the insanity.

My MIL is now 97. In the last year we have seen a sharp decline in her faculties. She played tennis and golf well into her 80’s. It’s really only been in the last 15 months that we see such a steep drop in everything, but we thank God every day that she is still with us. She lives in her same home that she and her husband shared once he retired.
She has caregivers every day during the day, but that will probably change soon. She’s stubborn, and she wants to hit that 100 year mark. She will probably make it that far, because she is stubborn, though her mind is really going. She has macular degeneration which creates a lot of everyday problems and confusion for her. Nothing can be done at this point.
Jack LaLane was a man to be admired and emulated. We should all be so fortunate.
It’s the one right at the top, with the hand weights (which I need to steal back from my wife! 🤪) It’s really addicting!
Can you explain to me how it works? picking out your route etc. Do you pay a monthly fee to be connected or is the route pre programmed into the machine?
If there is a tutorial on their website I have not found it. Thanks for any information that you can provide.

I’ve participated in the Crazy horse volksmarch at least a dozen times.
Ive been amazed at the changes I see every year.
Beyond that there are many amazing trails to hike
Now I just walk for an hour every other day and my mine and body looks forward to the relaxation I feel when I finish
It’s been a while, but I think I found a special where I bought the cycle for about $1300 and they included 3 years subscription to IFit.
The video screen is hooked up to wifi and feeds a menu of non stop training packages and trainer lead trails. Each trail location has about 6-12 different 25-40 minute rides, so you’ll just do one ride per day (or more, if you want).
At first, most trails will be Beginner rides. As you grow, you can choose Intermediate or Advanced. Most of my choices are Intermediate.
When a trainer leads you up a hill, the computer sends resistance to the bike, so you’re peddling as if you’re going up that hill. When the trainer goes down hill, the resistance is much less. It feels very real, sometimes.
The CPU tracks all of your rides and stats. As months go by, it offers you tougher rides - but always fun and interesting!
It will also give you a phone app to browse rides, and you can set your own schedule!
Per Tutorial, the only way about that is doing a begi ner ride. The trailer will talk about seat position and other basics.
My very first ride was an easy trail in Hawaii, but I was so out of shape, I got off at ten minutes. Today, I did 40minutes up a huge mountain in Croatia! Very effective, but baby steps. My goal is to do 20 rides per month!

Wow! I still have that exact original hand exerciser from my 60s childhood, without the mug. I still.use it, but not as regularly as the beer stein.
I joined the local gym for weight training. They apologized because I had to pay $23 a month.
