Zohran Mamdani doubles down on plan to target ‘whiter neighborhoods’ with higher taxes — and says billionaires shouldn’t exist
Socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani doubled down on his plan to jack up property taxes on “richer and whiter neighborhoods” on Sunday — and also asserted that billionaires shouldn’t exist.
Mamdani claimed that his soak-the-rich proposal was “not driven by race” — despite his campaign platform explicitly targeting white homeowners.
“That is just a description of what we see right now. It’s not driven by race. It’s more of an assessment of what neighborhoods are being under-taxed versus over-taxed,” Mamdani told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

Hey, no problem. “Hakeem” is protecting this killer. These Middle East terrorists stick together wherever they are. Democrats love their domestic terrorists.
Also, this Islamic socialist putz says no more billionaires. Does he have ANY clue how many thousands/millions of jobs they create? Maybe he'll learn as so many are looking to move out and probably take their businesses with them.
Go ahead NYC, elect this communist totalitarian and enjoy all the promised freebies, and watch your tax base dwindle to where the freebies are no longer sustainable.
NYC will go back to where it was before Giulliano cleaned it up. I'll be sitting here in the comfort and commonsense of South Orange County, CA laughing my ass off.
I’ve had arguments with these types before. They say “billionaires shouldn’t exist” and also expect the government to let them live their lives in peace. I tell them they have zero right to say what another person can make and what they do with their money. What gives them the right to say that!? I never get a decent response. Just “well, they’ve got too much power” or some such garbage. It’s always the same. Selfish, greedy, constantly envious people that think they can tell others how to live.
The socialist also bemoaned the shrinking tax base in the Big Apple but pinned the blame on the soaring cost of living pushing people out of the city....”
What he is deliberately confusing here is that the tax base is a completely different group from those who will benefit from his redistributionist plans. The tax base leaving the city are the wealthy. The poor who will benefit from his redistributionist plans are staying. So obviously, giving more money to the poor who aren't leaving has absolutely nothing to do with the tax base leaving.
Heck he says that Jews should not exist either so there’s that..If Sliwa and Cuomo do NOT drop out of the race and endorse Adams, this piece of crap is going to win easily, the vote is gonna split three ways and it will never work
Heck he’s to the left of SINWAR, mind as well dig his ass up and put him in the mayors job
Sounds just like your typical New Yorker. He will slide into office.
And if they elect this guy the deserve what they get.
It’s so easy to be a communist tyrant when you’re born with money and don’t have to work for it..
I have been wondering the same. What is he talking about? I'm hoping someone can explain.
It all sounds like propaganda and spin. But NYC Republicans also say the property tax system needs reform, so what's going on?
It seems a bit complicated, and every article I found on the subject is unclear on the details.
Most articles refer to "unfair" tax rates, but they don't tell us the amounts. A lower tax rate doesn't mean those homeowners pay less. The owner of a $3 million brownstone might have a lower tax rate but pay a much higher amount than someone who owns a $100K home.
Some articles quote a few examples - such as a homeowner who pays $2400 in taxes for a million-dollar home. But those articles don't tell us what the other homeowners are paying. They only mention a law that limits the increase in property assessment. So, maybe some people own homes that jumped in value, and people like Mamdani want them to pay more now? How much are their neighbors paying? For all we know, wealthy homeowners might be paying a fortune, but maybe the Mamdani crowd just thinks they should pay even more.
I don't live there, so it all sounds convoluted to me. But the average NYC property tax rate is supposedly pretty low.
What we need is a chart with actual numbers. Mamdani and others claim poorer NYers pay more in property taxes. So, what is the average amount in property taxes by NYC neighborhood? Maybe someone here can find that information.
And where is that found in the Koran.
If you transpose the letters M and D in Mamdani’s name, it reads Madmani.
