NJ smirks and cites ‘eminent domain’ to seize a 175-year-old farm so it can build welfare housing

What radicalized me? Oh gee I don’t know, maybe stories like this one?

Per a report at Fox News, township officials in the unincorporated community of Cranbury, NJ are in the process of seizing a historic family farm that has been under the family’s ownership for 175 years—that means since 1850—because they want to use it for a welfare housing project.

Benji Farraro reports that in April, Andy and Christopher Henry, the two brothers who currently own the farm, received a letter that informed them that Cranbury would be seizing all 21 acres, but government officials have now decided that they’ll make do with just half of the farm, and benevolently leave the house for the Henry family—now the Henry family gets to be neighbors with the third world foreigners who will no doubt be taking up residence in the “affordable housing” units built on Henry land! (Kind of reminds of when Abraham Lincoln spitefully directed the federal government to seize land that belonged to Mary Custis Lee as retribution for her husband’s allegiance to country over the Union, citing a “tax” dispute.)

The only thing I found surprising was that one of the owners of the farm was “shocked” that the government would operate in such an evil way:

‘It makes me feel terrible,’ Henry said. ‘It was a shock. We are surrounded by warehouses, been turning down developers for years. We just wanted to be left alone and take care of our place like my ancestors did before us.’

I’m sorry sir, but where in the he** have you been?

The entire system is built on theft, murder, and all other evils.

Operation Northwoods? Operation Paperclip? MK-Ultra? Ruby Ridge? Waco? Tuskegee experiments? Poisoning in St. Louis? Testing Big Pharma drugs on foster children? Operation Mockingbird?

The original Boston Tea Party — the colonists flipped out over a 3% tax on tea.

But the stuff our government is currently doing to us? It’s fine. Really. We’ll just sit and take it. No problem.

Eminent domain was meant for projects of far greater public service magnitude than this.

“... I would have taken the money and run...”

I didn’t read the whole article but any property sized by the gubmint thru eminent domain must by accompanied with some cash. The problem is that 21 acres of improved property (using local land prices) is probably worth well over $250,000. I would bet the gubmint cash offer does not exceed $10,000. Those farmers are being told to take this offer and get out - or refuse the offer and get out. Either way, get out.

While this is a bad scene, there’s always something being transmitted from a higher source. The repetition is the tell.

Topic: the farm land, and who is the rightful owner/heir.

(The government sees the farm land and wants to give it over to the two-legged locusts, kind of like how Jezebel had her eye on Naboth’s vineyard for her own little “garden”.)

This phrase is now appearing repeatedly and with high visibility on account of the outrage of the brazen theft plot and abject abuse of the law, and drawing the attention of the Trump admin:

“175-year-old” [family farm]

Genesis 25

7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years.
8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.
9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;
10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife.

In a weird twist, Abraham’s place was guaranteed because he bought the farm, whereas those who steal are doomed to wander aimlessly forever because they forcibly buy farms that are not for sale.

It’s simply bad business.

Not a good idea for the corrupt, hired hands to do whatsoever they want, when their boss is a genuine, scrupulously lawful real estate mogul.

In Allen Twp, Michigan, I recall eminent domain seizure of 10 acre property of a 94 year old woman. It was for a cemetery. She just wanted to live in the home until she died. Nothing doing. The property was seized for the cemetery. That was 20 years ago. The property is long over grown, but no graves. It is at the intersection of M49 and US 12 in Hillsdale County. They do prey on the weak.

Sorry, ESA will never stop a government project.
They’ll just find or invent a mitigation we’ll pay for.
Can you say ‘carbon offsets’?

This really burns my a*s. Welfare Housing? UGH

If the government takes your property I feel they should pay 25x market value. So if this guy was offered 30 million by a developer, the government needs to pay him 750 million.

Before anyone is too hard on the towns, the State forces us to build a certain amount of low income housing.

And I'm the last one to defend the State of New Jersey, but the state's affordable housing mandates were designed specifically to address the problems that were caused by municipalities like Cranbury.

The political leaders in towns like Cranbury sat down years ago and determined that their best course of action over the long term would be to encourage as much large-scale warehouse development as possible. This was based on a simple -- and cynical -- understanding of how New Jersey's system of governance works. They figured out that warehouse development gave them the best combination of impacts vs. benefits of any land use. Warehouses gave them the following:

1. Low impacts on municipal utilities (they use far less water and generate far less sewage than any other commercial land use)

2. No new students in the school system

3. Much lower rates of traffic (on a per-acre basis) than other land uses such as residential, retail, office, etc.

4. Property tax revenues that far exceed the costs of municipal services for the properties

The result of all this was that you have these municipalities with millions of square feet of warehouse space, with lots of truck traffic on regional roads in neighboring towns, and no local residential development where the workers in these buildings could live. You end up with thousands of workers traveling to these jobs from miles away, with other municipalities carrying the cost of all the municipal services for these workers and their families.

“liberal judges turned “just compensation” in the Bill of Rights to “fair market value” as government determines it. so government does not have to justly compensate property owners for the slight inconvenience of taking their property and their livelihood. “Just compensation” and “fair market value” are completely different concepts, & are NOT the same thing. Charity is not public use, even if they want to build public housing projects to claim there is some “public purpose” behind the taking of private property. This is all about taking wealth and power from white people and giving it to immigrants and the poor, a plot that began under Obama-—and the endgame is moving communist voters into areas formerly controlled by property owners who mostly were white——which is a form of forced racial gerrymandering, using zoning and confiscation of land. Every legislative district is gerrymandered to vote far Left, and the commie takeover is complete.”-——

The problem is that 21 acres of improved property (using local land prices) is probably worth well over $250,000. I would bet the gubmint cash offer does not exceed $10,000.

Under eminent domain law, the compensation for the property would have to be based on the "highest and best use" for it. A 21-acre agricultural property used for a medium-density residential subdivision would probably fetch something like $150,000 per acre on the open market. The municipality is going to be forced to pay something close to this market price for the property because they've come out and openly said they're going to use it for residential development.

If the family that owns the farm really wants to preserve it for agricultural use, their best course of action would be to register it under the state's Farmland Preservation Program. If they haven't even considered this option, then they really aren't looking to preserve the agricultural use of the property.

The “good news” is the Trump admin has entered the fight - on the side of the family farm:

“Trump admin to intervene on behalf of New Jersey family trying to stop government seizure of 175-year-old farm”

You can be sure if this were the Biden admin, they’d be on the side of eminent domain and seizure of the farm.
