For many people, a trip to the airport is simply a means to an end. Whether you're traveling for vacation or business, you'll need to catch your flight in order to get there - and that's where the airport comes in.
All airports have the same goal, but any traveler knows that all of them aren't created equally. Some airports are sprawling ecosystems with multiple terminals and acres of space, while others can be traversed entirely on foot.
One airport may have more opportunities for scenic views, while others offer better food options. The Washington Post recently ranked the best airports in the country, and the No. 1 choice passed nearly every test with flying colors.
The Post ranked Portland's International Airport (PDX) as the top airport in America.
The airport was praised for its architecture, including the massive video walls that line the terminal space. Stadium-style seating wood benches offer a holistic view of the terminal, allowing observers to see most of the foot traffic in the busy space.......
Other top airports on the list include Long Beach Airport in California, Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport, the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and Seattle's Paine Field International Airport.

Portland a best airport? Hardly. Traffic in Portland is horrible, and security is worse, or at least it was when I had to use it.
The terminal is quite nice, and PDX is home to an Air Guard F-15 unit, the 142nd Wing. They are tasked with air superiority for the northern west coast, so they are frequent fliers.
When I was flying out of PDX, the lines for the security checkpoint were endless. When I would finally get up to the 1 or 2 security lanes, I would see 5 - 10 TSA agents standing off to one side, chatting. I haven’t flown in ten years, so security may have improved.

I guess PDX is okay, but it was an absolute nightmare back when then
were remodeling it 15 or 20 years ago or so. But I guess the remodel paid off, if it’s now considered so allegedly wonderful.

Yes. Long Beach is great. Palm Springs and Ontario are great too.

Its funny but you can rrad that headline more than one way.
For me, maybe the newspaper could be better at being an airport than a source of unbiased news reporting.

Yeah what A terrible title. Took me a minute staring at it to figure out what it meant.

Washington Post is not an airport.
Well, maybe the writer was describing an LSD trip. If
"newspaper taxis appear on the shore, coming to take you away",
then maybe newspaper airports can appear to take you away, too.

The Traverse City, Michigan airport is fantastic.
So is Rockford, IL (RFD) and Tweed (HVN) in New Haven, CT.
For big airports, I'll go with Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) or Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). Dulles is okay, too.
Worst? Newark, followed by Sea-Tac.

I had a connecting flight in San Francisco a couple years ago and I was shocked at the opulence of the mens room. They spent a lot money on that place.

“Best airport in the country is Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)”
It used to be the worst.

My niece has a novel female-centric card and gift store in the newly remodeled terminal. It’s the only independent card store in a major US airport. The bid process (for the space) and the buildout was tortuous and costly but so far it appears to have been with it.

You would think it was an airport from that stupid headline. Are 6 yr olds writing these things?
