Every time I read about the people who go out and do not make it home I am struck by their wisdom.

Black bears are definitely in Baxter State park. It's an odd story, if the girl went for help she would have stayed on the well marked trails and eventually ran into others.
The logical conclusion, she couldn't make it down, found a spot off the trail and succumbed to the cold.
Come now! This is FR, she shived the old man & was in cahoots with her old lady!
Movie trivia time.
“Katahdin,” is the name of the creature in 1979’s Prophecy.
Written by the same guy who wrote The Omen: David Seltzer.
First role of the Predator: Kevin Peter Hall.

Solo climb, in the area on business and went to the mountain.
These mountains have snowstorms in AUGUST
One does not climb them without full overnight gear and tent particularly at this time of year.
Like the presidential range, that would be "above the tree line".
Back when it was released some of my friends and I went to the theater to get scared. There was a bit of suspense but when the film showed the actual monster we all started laughing, as well as a quarter of the others in the audience.
