Microsoft Forces Automatic Windows 11 24H2 Update on Pro and Home PCs

Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows 11 version 24H2 update is now in its final rollout phase and will soon be delivered automatically to millions of Home and Pro users around the world. As of May 2, 2025, any unmanaged device running Windows 11 versions 21H2, 22H2, or 23H2—or even Windows 10—will see the 2024 Update download in the background. After the download completes, users can choose when to install the update or postpone it by going to Settings, then Windows Update.

To avoid disruptions, Windows Update offers a four‑week postponement option. Should you need more time, you can use command‑line tools or adjust local policies to stop or block the update permanently.

One means of preventing the update is to not have enough memory available on your machine.

Here is how I turned off this update. We'll see if Microsoft overrides this setting in the future.

How to Block Windows 11 24H2 update on Personal PCs.

I used Method 1. Prevent Windows 11 to upgrade to v24H2 using Command Prompt.

Lotsa glitches regardless what MS says. I downloaded 11 on a new MS notebook and could no longer get sound. I uninstalled it and then had sound.

Stuff like that.

I think I remember the interview that made me reject Windows 11 & TPM. It was a tech giant being interviewed in an office setting. He was treated with hushed reverence and is he held THE TRUTH. He was saying something like the TPM module would be required to make sure you were not a bad actor, to make sure you are who you say you are. That way when you interact on a network or internet, everyone else is protected (from hackers). Doesn't it sound like "get the vax to protect grandma?"

Well, it sounded likely that the only way for that system, as described, to work is if you are uniquely identified by the TPM in your computer. Microsoft owns the TPM and upgrades. (I've seen troubleshooting content as to how to correct issues with TPM which prevent you from logging on). Currently, Windows 10 pressures you to create a Microsoft account to log on to your computer. No more working offline. That means you have to rely on an internet connection to log onto your home computer, at least according to Microsoft, for now. Users are creating work arounds, but I'm skeptical that will always be in place. Predictably, removing our access to a stand-alone local account is said to be intended to enhance security and user experience of Windows 11. You see, they are simply altruists!

How to Install Windows 11 with Local Account (April 2025)
Konstantinos Tsoukalas , Last updated: May 5th, 2025

If you're looking for a way to clean install or set up Windows 11 with a Local Account and skip the Microsoft Account requirement, this guide is for you.

Microsoft announced last week that it had removed the ability to install Windows 11 with a local account using the well-known "bypassnro" command, which removed the requirement to connect to the Internet and use a Microsoft account to configure the operating system, by adding the "BypassNRO" value to the registry.

More specifically, Microsoft says that "We’re removing the bypassnro.cmd script from the build to enhance security and user experience of Windows 11. This change ensures that all users exit setup with internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account."

However, there are still ways to bypass the network and Microsoft account requirements to set up Windows 11 with a local account, and in this guide you will find the most common of them.

“I doubt they will push Win11 downloads to Win10 PC’s that do not qualify for an upgrade to Win11 (me). That would make no sense but then I haven’t looked into any of this.”

Everyone is worried about that hardware compatibility issue. They are worried that MS will actually remotely brick those machines on purpose to kill them and force folks to go buy new ones.

There has never been a good ‘update’. They all slow down any computer they are applied to and increase the chance of programs not running.

Why would I trust the people who couldn’t get it right the first time to fix what they failed to do properly?

Thank you. Yes, I don’t know why folks have not figured this out yet. This is basically Microsoft will always own and have complete control and access of your machine. And they are going to squeeze extortion money out of you to use it like it is rented.

If this is not a Monopoly and unfair business practice I do not know what is. How much you want to bet they are making all the new machines so that you cannot even install an alternative Operating system if you wanted to. This is a prearranged conspiracy from the PC makers and Microsoft.

I was just curious if they check for HW compatibility before pushing a download that eats up my disk space. They already check for HW compatibility before allowing a Win11 upgrade. I know I tried it. :-)

Still using Win Xp SP3 as daily driver here ... (have others, couple Win7 boxes, Win10 box, dual boot Ubuntu/Win Xp box) but everything I need on a daily basis is here on a 32 bit Core2 Duo 45um running at 3Ghz w/4GB of ram ...

The problem is getting a browser that works; Mypal68 works for me.

What never ceases to amaze me is how many will let MS abuse them this way rather than just switch to Linux and be done with the whole sadistic MS game.

Its a long story but I have zero interest in Linux. I have a whole Windows infrastructure built around an assortment of hobbies.

But I appreciate your interest in my well being. ha ha

We really resented the Microsoft ‘sneakiness’; and then we found that Linux was far better anyway.

I was just speaking in general.

But that is how they keep everyone hooked... That “one” game or “App” folks just “can’t live without”.

I gave up a lot of stuff when I switched. But I could have never done myself a better favor... Best move I ever made.

Pushing out their spyware to Win10?

At least the Win7 machine is safe for now.
