POZ ^ | May 23, 2025 | Trent Straube

Finally, some good news this week about lawmakers. The governor of Maryland, Wes Moore, signed into law a bill that decriminalizes HIV. Specifically, the bill repeals an old law that made it a crime to “knowingly transfer or attempt to transfer” HIV to another individual.

Resolved?? There’s no money in curing anything. The money is in treating diseases.

The money is in treating diseases.

And in facilitating their ongoing transmission.

What am I missing? This is GOOD news? HIV is so innocuous that using it as a weapon (potentially executing the victim in
a painful, debilitating manner) is not criminal?

This seems like a law written and passed by vengeful LBGTQ advocates.

> “knowingly transfer or attempt to transfer” HIV to another individual.

Are they going to campaign on this great achievement?

It should always remain a crime
Same as if someone knowingly passed on syphilis to another person or via donated plasma.
I thought Gov Wes Moore was supposed to be a Common Sense politician, at least that what actor George Clooney has been claiming. Clooney expects Gov. Moore to run for president in 2028.

How is that outdated? Does that mean I can go screw a monkey and knowingly spread Ebola to as many people as possible before I bleed out?

They are still trying to allow HIV people to donate blood.

Knowingly infecting someone else with a disease used to be the equivalent of a war crime, and in years past was prosecuted as a death penalty if I recall correctly.

Now they was to decriminalize it?

Is that why:

“Nearly half of Black women are infected with genital herpes”

AI Overview

Yes, research indicates that nearly half of Black women are infected with genital herpes, with studies reporting prevalence rates of about 48%. This is significantly higher than the overall prevalence of herpes in the US, which is around 17%.

Here’s a more detailed look:

High Prevalence:

Studies consistently show that African American women have the highest rates of HSV-2 (the virus that causes genital herpes) compared to other racial groups.

Specific Numbers:
A study from the CDC found that 50% of Black women between the ages of 14 and 49 are infected with genital herpes.

CDC: Genital Herpes Among Black Women High
https://www.npr.org/2010/03/12/124628530/cdc-genital-herpes-among-black-women-high

In CommiCalifornia

In California, it is a misdemeanor to knowingly expose someone to HIV with the **intent** to infect them...

The left has some real issues don’t they.

Years ago I remember all these articles out about AIDS and in the comments on one was a guy saying he had HIV but he’s not revealing that to anyone because if he did he would never get any sex.

I imagine that is not an uncommon opinion out there.

They crowed about decriminalization of purposely spreading HIV in California.
THEN put out articles stating that the explosion in STD’s was due to “racism”.
