The latest update to Windows 11 is a mess.

The average person won’t know how to navigate all the things one would have to do to correct errors that occur with their personal computers. My two year old laptop has been deemed obsolete because the newest update isn’t compatible. Well, there is more to it than that, but that’s about the situation in a nutshell.

A lot of people know this too. The boards are full of people calling out MS on this.

Over 50% of my code this year 2025 so far was written by AI and going forward it’ll be around 70%. However, 100% of all my code gets plenty of careful scrutiny.

Think of AI as a tool for programmers like those new bulging Yankees baseball bats are a tool for a Hitter. If the Hitter doesn’t know how to effectively use a bat then the new bulge isn’t going to help much. But if they know what they are doing then they’ll do better.

Perhaps a better analogy would be the scenario of a middle school student taking a math test with 30 word problems and them being allowed to use a calculator where AI is like this calculator. If the student doesn’t understand the math problem then the calculator won’t do them any good.

That explains why it sucks beyond human comprehension.

Sure, why not? That’s what machines are for.

Most code is a bunch of boilerplate like the wording in contracts. Some 40 page document where only a few phrases are changed for the particular usage.

We used to laugh at “bloatware” back in the 90s, but now we have bloatware^10. I’ve never seen so much useless crap crammed into apps and programs. Doing the simplest things has become such a pain in the ass with the computer injecting itself into everything.

Thank God for the simple archaic relic of FReeRepublic.

Explains a few things. I just spent a few weeks finding a critical issue in one of their core products. Then there were two more critical bugs that came along right after that.

Microsoft has become an Indian company full of sloppy, thoughtless, products.

One of my good friends just started at Microsoft a couple of years ago and says it’s BY FAR the most miserable place he’s ever worked. No one knows anything, so you have to figure everything out on your own. There’s no documentation on how anything works, and none of his coworkers talk to each other. (His manager admitted as much, and says “That’s just how MS is”).

So this story doesn’t surprise me.

For the average computer user, Microsoft is excellent.

I have had a Dell All-In-One with Windows 10 for seven years.

I have had the Microsoft Edge auto-installment for five years, maybe longer.

Perfect hardware.

Perfect software.

Not one call to Microsoft or Dell Help Lines in seven years.

Why would I buy anything else?

Recent Windows updates have so screwed up my PC that I can’t even restart, or it will take at least 15 attempts and repairs and restore points to get it to do so without a blue screen. I have paused updates for weeks, and every so often I get apps that can’t open. Disaster.
