Archaeological excavations at the ancient site of Megiddo in northern Israel, also known as "Armageddon," have unearthed a significant amount of 7th-century BCE Egyptian pottery, potentially providing the first physical evidence of the battle between King Josiah of Judah and Pharaoh Necho of Egypt, as documented in the biblical books of Kings II and Chronicles.
A team of Israeli archaeologists, led by Prof. Israel Finkelstein of the University of Haifa and Dr. Assaf Kleiman of Ben Gurion University, detailed their findings in two academic papers published earlier this year. The unprecedented quantity of Egyptian ceramic vessels discovered at Megiddo suggests a substantial Egyptian military presence at the site during the period when the biblical battle is said to have occurred...
The biblical narrative in 2 Chronicles and 2 Kings describes how King Josiah, a ruler who sought to restore righteous practices in Judah, confronted Pharaoh Necho as the Egyptian king marched against the Assyrians. The ensuing battle at Megiddo resulted in Josiah's death (2 Chronicles 35:20-22; 2 Kings 23:29)...
Adding another layer of intrigue, the excavations also revealed a notable amount of pottery from eastern Greece, dated to between 630 and 610 BCE. This timeframe aligns with the estimated date of the Josiah-Necho battle (609 BCE). Finkelstein and Kleiman propose that these Greek ceramics might indicate the presence of Greek mercenaries who fought alongside the Egyptians...
Intriguingly, these Greek mercenaries could also connect to the biblical narrative of Gog. Finkelstein suggested that some scholars believe "Gog" in the Bible might refer to Gyges, the king of Lydia in western Anatolia, who, according to Assyrian records, sent mercenaries to serve in the Egyptian army during the 7th century...

LOL!
They’re not ‘suggesting’, it’s a fact that there was a Battle of Megiddo which took place during the Kdm of Israel period. During the 19th or early 20th century there was at least one Battle of Megiddo between the Ottoman Turks and probably the British, if memory (such as it is) serves.
Thanks!
Megiddo’s sister city, Yougiddo, hasn’t yet been found.
[crickets]
Okay, I’m not proud of that one.
Necho was succeeded by the Pharaoh Pez.
its a tri-city region, so don’t forget the city of Theygiddo!
And with Goddigo was excavated, a lot of leftovers were still in the fridge.

Necho was a baaaddd dude!
Those Ottomans. Imagine, a whole empire based on putting your feet up.
Thanks jjotto.
Archaeological excavations need to continue until they find Himgiddo, Hergiddo and Themgiddo as well.
:)
They should go back to exporting hand-crafted ottomans from their homeland in Mongolia-Kazakhstan and leave Anatolia alone.
Never been to Mongolia. I have been to Kazakhstan. I just don’t recall very many ottoman stores there. I’m sure there were probably a few.
One last Seinfeld reference, if I may. It sounds like you’re saying that they should focus on the exporting and not the importing. That would sound like practical advice.
LOL!
I spent ages trying to track down a tune from probably the mid- to late 1980s, I remember it as “Hot Kiddo”. Bupkis. Wound up listening to a bunch of candidates on YouTube that, it turned out, I didn’t like. My own stupid fault. :^)
:^) And Brian Williams almost got hit by some projectiles while just trying to cover the story!
😆
