They came into some sleazy money.
Bags full of cash fell off a Brinks Home Security Company truck as it drove through a Chicago suburb last week — leaving over $300,000 in cash in the hands of sticky-fingered locals, according to a report.
The moolah hauler’s back door became ajar by “unknown means” as it rolled through the Oak Park neighborhood of the Second City on Tuesday — dropping three cash-filled bags onto Austin Boulevard, according to NBC.
Brinks claims that between 50 and 100 Chicagoans capitalized on the money mishap — making a mad cash-grabbing dash and fleeing the scene, the report stated.
Approximately $300,000 was swiped from those bags, the company claimed, according to the report.

I remember the same thing happening decades ago. Results were the same.

Immediate press release: “Please know that the bags contained bills being transferred to an incinerator for destruction. They were involved in a terrorist anthrax envelope threat at offices nearby. Anyone handling the bills should not bother seeking medical aide as by this time there is no treatment.”
“Surviving family members can seek gov’mt restitution since the bills were supposed to be transferred to the incinerator in secure boxes, not bags. Contact your local FBI office for the proper protocol to follow on this.”
I'm assuming they were all members of the human race - anyone can claim victim status.

I wondered about that too. Pass off $290,000, to someone you can trust, in a place with no cameras, then let $10,000 fall out the back in a place with no cameras, and claim the locals scooped up the whole $300,000, you are short.
Might even be better if your accomplice worked at one of the places you pick up from. Sign for $300,000, put $10,000, in the truck, to dump, and stay on camera the whole way, to prove it would have been impossible for you to have taken the missing money.
That’s how Elmore Leonard would have done it.
