Former Dem congressman suggests Shedeur Sanders fell in NFL Draft because 'America fears strong black men'

After NFL quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders was not selected in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday, many critics debated why on social media.

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman joined the debate Friday, suggesting the reason Sanders slid was because "America continues to fear strong black men." Bowman also compared the 23-year-old quarterback to former NFL star Eli Manning, who refused to play for the San Diego Chargers after being selected with the No. 1 pick in 2004.

"The NFL doesn’t like [Shedeur]Sanders because he wears gold chains and talks like a rapper. They don’t care that he’s a leader, intelligent, tough and completed 77% of his passes with no O-line and no running game. He’s entitled but Eli Manning wasn’t entitled when he refused to be drafted by San Diego?" Bowman wrote on X.

"He’s not athletic, but that didn’t stop Joe Montana, Drew Brees or Tom Brady. America continues to fear strong black men who come from means and have a strong sense of themselves without submitting to the 'dominant' culture."

Bowman added in the video that he expects the Cleveland Browns to select Sanders with the first pick of the second round Friday night.

"It's the way Shedeur dresses. It's the way he talks, and it's his culture, in my opinion. You see him at the draft last night. He's wearing all black. He got the L chain on, and he talks like a rapper," Bowman said.

Agree. And he’s not a pocket QB.

I doubt any NFL organization wants Deon Sanders running their quarterback/ creating drama in the locker room. Kinda like having your ex move in with you and your new wife.

So far you can count the white picks on two hands.

Holds the ball too long with post snap reads (That is like garlic to a vampire with coaches and GMs) and can't separate confidence with arrogance.

Rumors were that he was flippant, pompous, and patronizing in meetings/interviews with prospective coaches along with administrators who would be his eventual bosses. Of course being humbled with prospective boses and having a respectable demeanor during the interview process is "systematic racism of the white culture/expectations", prejudicial, and oppressive.

Idiots who think (Race-baiters) you must "code switch" to appease the "white culture" are the biggest frauds in this story. That culture has lead to billions in profitability due to those "white folks" exercising risk management to grow the darn sport.

“If I were Cam Ward, I would take his words as an insult.”

That reminds me of the oft-referred concept of the “strong woman.”

That is stated as if there aren’t too many around.

And, these women are quoted as saying, “I am a strong woman.” If a man, in a group of men, were to say, “I am a strong man,” the meaning would be immediately clear and he would be laughed out of the room, at the very least.

He will follow Chad Kelly’s footsteps to the CFL.

i watched many of shooder’s games and thought he was a slightly better than average NCAA quarterback ... nothing to get too excited about in the NFL ...

You knew the racial charges were coming.

That’s why Trump treated support for Sanders, to be ahead of it.

Re: "NFL teams aren't going to risk tens or hundreds of millions of dollars..."

The #1 2025 Draft Pick will get a guaranteed four year contract for a little more than $40 million.

The drafting team also has a one year option [just for First Round draft choices] that follows the fourth season.

From memory, the #1 Draft Pick Option Year pays about $20 million guaranteed.

Elite players drafted in the First Round do not get HUGE contracts until their sixth year in the NFL, when they become Free Agents.

Even then, guaranteed money is still below $100 million.

I was going to say the same thing. No team wants a "stage daddy" breathing down their necks before every game.

Every NFL coach cares about just one thing - winning. Any suggestion that in 2025 that they have any other priority on their mind is absurd.

I have known strong black Americans, plus an actual captain in the Nigerian Army, plus a smart gentleman from Ghana.

None of them wore earings, tatoos. They all were helpful people who spoke English well.

One of them was a Korean War veteran whose vocabulary was limited by injury. He stood upon the small platform at the right rear of our municipal trash truck, and I rode along, standing upon the left rear platform.

I liked the work. Good to be outside and alive.

Almost no plastic trash cans in those days. You grabbed the ubiquitous galvanized (but rusting inside) and often battered steel trash can and either threw it at the dump area in the back of the truck, but sometimes dragged the can and then managed to lift it into the dump area.

Anyway, some actual men. Such as a fellow whose name was Parse.

Brock Purdy (QB - 49ers) was the last person drafted in the 2022.
