Simple solution; don’t use Edge.

Never. I’ve been using Opera for about 20 years, https://www.opera.com/

Copilot and Edge are removed on my laptop... and a lot of MS is disabled with drivers removed as well.

I have no idea what the old Tab Page did.

Regardless, the AI on Microsoft Bing is outstanding.

You ask a question, Bing gives you an excellent summary, plus helpful links.

Google summaries are less helpful, and their top links have ad bloat.

First time every day when I log into a PC at work, it tries to set up CoPilot. 30 seconds later, I get to close it. Screen saver has the stock tips, news, shopping widgets, weather etc.

Last place I worked I figured out how to get rid of all the junk but the PCs in this new place are used my multiple people so I can’t personalize them. I use 3 PCs on a regular basis depending on where in the shop I am. They are set up however IT/admin sets them up.

They have a support/help desk system so I guess I’ll let them know about the CoPilot thing because that’s just wasting 30 seconds a day for every user.

I have tried co-pilot more than a few times and it mostly lame to useless. I use Grok3 and Perplexity. I should check out Gemini, though its just the newest way for goog scum to snag more data for your dossier / profile.

I haven’t run into that problem yet - my concern will be with their plans to have the browser take periodic screen shots “for your convenience” in finding things you looked at - I thought that’s what history and the link bar were for.....

The Microsoft AI enhanced searches have really screwed up the start button. Formerly when I clicked on start and type “not” the top of the list would be Notepad++ and Windows Notepad programs on my computer. Now it brings up various help sites instead of direct links to run the programs. Anymore I have to dig through the start menu to find which group it’s in rather than type three letters and click. Thanks, Microsoft, for making my life more difficult to allow you to push me to ad supported links.

I am currently using an older computer that is running Windows 10. It is too old to update to Windows 11, and I have been doing too much troubleshooting anyhow over the last couple of years. It is running just fine now, but it’s like my own health. It’s fine, until one day when it won’t be.

I have started to poke around to start scoping my options, given that Windows 10 support is ending this year and my nine year old computer is basically a major crash waiting to happen. I’ve always worked in a Windows environment and hate to figure out something new, but given all the grumbling about Windows 11 and Microsoft in general, I’m at least open to considering other options.

I spoke to one salesperson who seemed knowledgeable — not that I know enough to be a good judge of that — and he assured my that its easy to turn off Copilot and that the tech guys in the store could permanently block or remove it when I bought the machine. He was claiming that this kept Microsoft and the cloud at bay, not much different in that regard than earlier versions of Windows.

Is this true? Are there any words of wisdom from sophisticated users.

I back up files on an external hard drive, generally use Chrome, not Edge, on my existing machine, and I use DuckDuckGo and a VPN. That’s all pretty elementary, but I don’t want to go mucking around in deeper technical waters.

Been using Linux exclusively for past m9nth or so without opening win dows at all- wasn’t on windows 3 minutes before a freaking blue screen of death happened- rebooted, another minute goes by, another body, then another- f8nally it calm3d down enough to do what I needed to do in windows- and that was windows 10- I had never had p4oblems with 10 until r3cent updates a few months ago- now i5 crashes as much as my windows 11 does.

I’d quit wind9ws altogether but have 3 programs that won’t run on windows 7 anymore beczuse they are all going to WI ndows 10,and above only now!

I have installed a tab called GROK

Although Co Pilot is great, GROK 3 is superior
