Pubs/Bars to stay open late for VE Day 80th anniversary

Pubs in England and Wales will be able to stay open until 01:00 BST to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the government has confirmed.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said pubs and bars that usually close at 23:00 will be able to keep serving for an extra two hours on Thursday 8 May.

"Keeping our pubs open for longer will give people the opportunity to join in celebrations and raise a glass to all of the men and women who served their country, both overseas and at home," Sir Keir said.

Similar extensions to pub licensing hours have been used on VE Day anniversaries in previous years, as well as major royal celebrations and significant sporting events such as the Euro 2024 final.

VE Day - or Victory in Europe Day - is celebrated on 8 May each year to mark Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender to Allied forces in World War Two.

I would give my eye teeth to be at the "White Hart"where RAF Spitfire pilots raised a few in the summer of 1940 onward.

But any attendees will be closely monitored by the UK’s Stasi and will be arrested if they say “Kraut” or “Jerry”.

I have a feeling your comment is not too far from the truth.

When thinking of the tariffs I also got to thinking about victory day. There was a legit world war and the US gave all to help win it. I knew for years we should have gotten out of Europe once the USSR died out, but we kept NATO alive while the Euro-leaches bled us to death by not paying their fair share and let their military forces become jokes.

What I never knew until recently is they’ve also been screwing us to death in the trade department. Until Trump came along we’ve all been taking this double screwing with big smiles on our faces.

It really never hit home until I was watching a Trump speech where he asked some German leader how many Chevy’s were in Munich. The answer was zero. It’s due to unfair trade practices.

VE day should have a new meaning this year. It should be the year we pull out of NATO and balance the trade. It would be our Victory from Europe.

When is the anniversary of dumping all the small arms of the citizens and home guard into the English Channel?

Their left-wing gubmit had better make sure that keeping those pubs open will not offend the peacful, loving folks who follow the religion of hate, rape, lies, beheading, and general awfulness.

I was a tourist in London on May 8, 1985, where they were celebrating the 40th anniversary of VE Day. It’s hard to wrap my mind around the fact that 40 years have passed since my trip to London.

And here’s hoping, Starmer, that they will be raising a glass, also, to your resignation.

Prayers for Great Britain.
