Hypertension causes kidney changes at an early stage, finds study
Medical Xpress / Medical University of Vienna / Hypertension ^ | March 27, 2025 | Christopher Paschen et al

Posted on 04/05/2025 9:09:17 PM PDT by ConservativeMind

A research team has investigated structural changes in kidneys of patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes. The results show high blood pressure can lead to abnormalities in the podocytes, specialized cells in the renal filter, even without other pre-existing conditions such as diabetes.

The results underline the importance of early detection and consistent treatment of high blood pressure in order to prevent kidney damage.

To arrive at results, the research team analyzed kidney tissue from a total of 99 patients.

The investigation was conducted on unaffected renal tissue samples from tumor nephrectomies (performed between 2013 and 2018), a surgical procedure in which a kidney is removed in whole or in part to treat a kidney tumor.

Using modern imaging and computer-assisted methods, the size and density of the podocytes and the volume of the renal corpuscles (glomeruli) were determined in the tissue samples. Podocytes are specialized cells of the renal corpuscles (glomeruli) that play a crucial role in the filtering function of the kidney. Their size and density are important indicators of the health of the kidney tissue.

Artificial intelligence in the form of deep-learning-based image analysis was used for the analysis.

"The results show that patients with hypertension have a reduced density of podocytes compared to healthy controls and that their cell nuclei are enlarged compared to those of healthy controls," reports Christopher Paschen. These changes occurred independently of the additional diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and likely represent the first microscopically visible step towards impaired renal function.

The authors see this as an indication that high blood pressure can cause structural damage to the kidneys at an early stage and before clinical symptoms appear. "Early detection and treatment could help to slow the progression of kidney disease and prevent long-term damage," say Rainer Oberbauer and Heinz Regele.

High blood pressure causes these bad changes before Type 2 diabetes even shows up.

Stay on top of your blood pressure and don’t let it stay high. Loosen that belt, or wear less restrictive clothing, diet down, reduce stress, or take medicine or supplements to minimize the damage that constant high blood pressure causes everywhere.

‘Take medecine’ to reduce blood pressure, even before clinical symptoms. Yeah sure, thanks for the stupid advice.

Yes, you should take blood pressure medicine if you have high blood pressure.

There are no symptoms of these kidney changes.

I don’t imagine any medical doctor would agree with you to not take blood pressure medicine for high blood pressure until you note an obvious kidney function change.

‘Yes, you should take blood pressure medicine if you have high blood pressure’

NO, you shouldn’t. A simple change in diet is what should be prescribed, first and only. Anyone recommending blood pressure medecine in such case is not a doctor but a drug dealer or a moron.

“I don’t imagine any medical doctor would agree with you to not take blood pressure medicine for high blood pressure until you note an obvious kidney function change.”

Because you lack imagination and are a total sucker of anything new from the medical pseudo-science is not evidence that your opinion was right.

You’re so dumb, you’re adorable! If or when YOU get HBP, I DARE YOU not to take BP meds with only a dietary change. You have zero experience in this and do not know what you’re talking about. Of course, with such ignorance, you likely never monitor your BP, so it will be too late for you. Stay far away from dispensing your “medical advice” to anyone! Gawd, I hope you’re not anyone’s caretaker, ever.

I am a health freak and a prevention passionate, so your asumption is so wrong it’s laughable. You know nothing and you come into an adult conversation with an insult and delirious prejudices, who’s ‘dumnb’ now?

As to high blood pressure medecines, I never said only dietaty change is for anybody with hbp. If you don’t understand the context, re-read, with the finger. And in its context, what I say remains true, no matter how triggered you are.

Not only are you obtuse, you're a liar, too! You wrote:

Your post to her was THE most ignorant claim I've ever read in last two years on FreeRepublic. You said something embarrassingly dumb and now you're trying to slither out of it. I get your type.

Wanna triple down on dumb again? Go for it. I'm here all day.

CDC Numbers:

48% of USA adults have high blood pressure.

Just 1/4 of those folks control it with medication.

That means about 35% of USA adults have un-controlled high blood pressure.

I am thinking the rate of significant kidney disease among USA adults is WAY less 35%.

I am also thinking this study might be a camouflaged advertisement for high blood pressure medication.

That sounds exactly right to me.

If just diet and exercise do not restore healthy blood pressure, THEN consider medication.

No. That is an incorrect presumption. Not all HBP is caused by poor diet and lack of exercise. The important - potentially life saving and organ saving - priority is to get immediate control with appropriate BP meds. Then, of course, resolve any weight and exercise neglect. At age 60, I'm in better shape than likely 90% at my age and for three years now. Cycle almost every day with a great diet. It sucks to be tied to the HBP meds, yet here I am.

I said
“A simple change in diet is what should be prescribed, first and only”
in the context of “NO CLINICAL SYMPTOMS”, which I said just a post above.
Reading comprehension is important when you try to insert yourself into an adult conversation.

Exercice is always recommended. If it works in real life, then why do we have more and more high blood pressure cases, year after year??? Same for medication? Pesky facts, right?

Diet change on the other hand has always worked, it’s known since Salisburry in the... mid 19th century. And I don’t talk about the crappy “healthy” diet recommended by the corrupt current medical establishment.
Go check Drs Westman, Unwin, Baker, Berry, Chaffee... They have thousands and thousands cases of patients who not only resolve their HBP problem just after 2 weeks of keto or carnivore but also manage to also take off their medication altogether.

In a sane world, we should have put into prison all the pills pushers. Instead, we let them make ads on TVs for all the suckers to consume.

Obviously a man-child, here's miniTARD's example of an "adult conversation" with ConservativeMind, the most prolific poster of medical information on FreeRepublic:

Anyone recommending blood pressure medecine (sic) in such case is not a doctor but a drug dealer or a moron... Because you lack imagination and are a total sucker of anything new from the medical pseudo-science is not evidence that your opinion was right.

So, miniTARD, not only have you displayed an almost dangerous obtuseness to medical facts per symptoms and diagnosis in your so called "adult conversation", you've also proved you're a liar who can't even spell the most basic words. That's because you're mentally lazy and don't pay attention to details. So, you can keep on trying to weasel your little way out of this, but your embarrassingly childish and uninformed posts are here to stay. So, good luck with that fight, miniTARD.

‘That’s because you’re mentally lazy and don’t pay attention to details’

Said the guy who quoted me out of context. And trying to deny your lack of reading comprehension by making a shit ton out of one typo only reveals the petty old man that you are.
The hypertension medicine has definitely damaged your brain like any long term pills pushed by your beloved drug dealers.

C’mon, “Mister Adult Conversation”, spin your “context” you keep trying so hard to lie about. Go ahead. Make it good! We’re waiting... You’re such a phoney.

‘You really ARE low IQ, miniTARD’

Projection much, or you forgot to take your cherished hypertension pill?
Since you are too dense by asking again and again for the context, I will explain to you in the simplest term possible the very last time:

I said it’s stupid to take hypertension medicine if there is NO CLINICAL SYMPTOM (post #3). Then in post #5, I repeat my claim by saying “Anyone recommending blood pressure medecine in such case is not a doctor but a drug dealer or a moron.”; “IN SUCH CASE” meaning NO CLINICAL SYMPTOM.

So my sentence “I never said only dietaty change is FOR ANYBODY with hbp” (post #7), in its context, is perfectly consistent with the above claims. Yet you accuse me of lying in that sentence, without EVER mentionning my ‘NO CLINICAL SYMPTOM’ or “IN SUCH CASE” qualifiers. If it’s not quoting me out of context, then what is it???

BTW, saying hypertension without any clinical symptom should be treated first and only by diet change and certainly NOT by pills is nothing controversial Any good doctor would say it, any carnivore doctor would say it (Dr Ken Berry, Westman , heart surgeon Ovadia, dr Westman...they all advocate it publicly, repeatedly). Because you are stupid enough to take the hbp pills sold by your shitty doc/drug dealer doesn’t change this reality: high blood pressure without clinical symptoms can be cured in less than two weeks with a carnivore diet with zero medicine.

You're so easy to manipulate, you're adorable. You actually quadripled down on how ignorant you are and - unbelievably arrogant in attacking "ConservativeMind" in doing so. Again, you don't know what you're talking about and your little thread of illogic and ignorance will be earmarked for me to show any other Freeper who has to endure any future boorish non-medical pharmboy intellect and disinformation of "msnbcTARD".
