SEN RAND PAUL: Terminate the Trump tariffs before it's too late
Fox News Digital ^ | April 4 | Sen. Rand Paul

Posted on 04/05/2025 3:42:20 AM PDT by RandFan

If you think eggs are expensive, just wait until the new tariffs hit cars. Goldman Sachs estimates tariffs on imported vehicles could raise prices by $5,000 to $15,000. That’s because tariffs are taxes on foreign imports that are paid by American consumers. These tariffs apply to almost every conceivable product. As a result, energy will be more expensive, and gas prices in some parts of the country could see as much as a 70-cent increase in the cost per gallon. According to the National Association of Home Builders, the building of a single-family home could become up to $10,000 more expensive because of the tariffs. With the tariffs on aluminum, even beer and hard seltzer are likely to increase in price.

Unfortunately, these tax increases are on top of the taxes you have already paid when tariffs were imposed during the first Trump administration. The Tax Foundation calculated that tariffs between 2018 and 2023 imposed an additional $1,753 in costs on American families. Now that the tariffs apply to even more products, the tax increases are poised to be even higher this time. The Peterson Institute predicts tariffs could annually cost families $1,200 a year, while Yale’s Budget Lab estimates the tariffs would cost the average American family $4,200 annually.

The fact that tariffs are taxes paid by consumers is not news to the American people. That is why vehicle sales jumped almost 13% last month as Americans sought to make their purchases before the 25% tariffs on motor vehicles and parts went into effect.

Paul is going to be as wrong an McConnell, Murkowski and Collins, the globalist whores he voted with on the issue.

There is nothing remote liberation nor is it free trade when dealing with countries that enact massive tariffs against US goods while being on the receiving end of no tariffs.

Paul has exposed himself as a globalist and enemy of the American First agenda.

He is not a traitor at all, he is like most right now, they have extremely short memories and did not learn from history. We have already been here and done this and it has already been proven to work.

For example?

We've lived with grossly unfair trade for decades without correcting the problem while our manufacturing base dwindles to critically low levels.

Paul is a globalist whore, not a libertarian.

It's not free and fair trade when other countries are implementing tariffs and we're not and when dealing with communist nation that can manipulate labor costs.

You're rewriting history.

Tariffs were absolutely not a major part of Trump's campaign in 2016 or 2020.

He absolutely campaigned on in 2024 and had the public will behind him on the issue.

Rand is wrong on this one. He is a tool of his donors. Panic is the order of the day.

I've noticed people I usually respect going wobbly over President Trump's attempt to restore balance. Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Thomas Sowell and others have been objecting to tariffs based on the mishandling of them in the past. I believe President Trump is re-leveling the playing field in a world-spanning poker tournament while holding the winning hand.

They need America more than America needs them, so they'll bitch and moan through a few hands before conceding. This beats the Democrat Party way of letting the tiny playground bullies take our lunch money because that was easier than standing up.

We're going to lose a little here and a bit more there along the way, but in the end America will rake in the winnings. We must have the stomach and determination to get there.

Thank you for referencing that article RandFan.

"SEN RAND PAUL: Terminate the Trump tariffs before it's too late"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

I know we're in later times, but Thomas Jefferson had indicated that supporting the new constitutional republic entirely with tariffs was the plan of the constitutional drafters.

The rich alone use imported articles, and on these alone the whole taxes of the General Government are levied [emphasis added]. … Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings.” —Thomas Jefferson to Thaddeus Kosciusko, 1811.

So let's give Trump's tariffs a chance.

No one elected Rand Paul president - and this is just one more time he’s standing with democrats against the President the people elected. This crap is getting old - he’s doing a John McCain and the liberal press loves him for it.

Tariffs are bad. If Trump is forced to use tariffs, so be it. Hopefully he is being strategic about it and it’s not for the long term.

It is difficult to believe that Rand Paul does not see what is happening and does not understand Donald Trump. He should read The Art Of The Deal. The world has been full of tariffs. Trump's words and actions has forced a rethink about tariffs around the world and the result is a tremendous diminution of tariffs that burden American products. The economically advanced countries all tariff American products. Some countries, particularly China, have high tariffs on American trade altogether and that is one reason that so many American industries moved to China. China has more than Tariffs. China has outright bans on many American products which amounts to an infinite tariff.

rump is, in fact, bringing on a reduction or elimination of tariffs around the world. Even France with Macron’s haughty disdain of American tariffs has begun to make noises about reducing its tariffs. Canada which immediately mounted its high horse and threatened to increase tariffs on American trade has with its other face started the process of dismantling its antiAmerican tariffs. Rand Paul and other Republicans seem ready to join Democrats in shooting America’s toes off. Leave the Trump tariff treatments alone and in a year of less they can start crowing how their righteous opposition has forced Trump’s tariffs to be dismantled as they fall due to the flurry of international trade negotiations they have set off.

I am gratified to see that at least some of the FR denizens understand what DJT is doing for America. Many conservative who are otherwise well read and knowledgeable totally misread DJT's goals and methods for rationalizing world trade. Rand Paul apparently is unfamiliar with DJT's The Art Of The Deal or he has other designs in mind..
