Would you add a few more vegetables and whole grains to your diet in return for a healthy old age? A new study has broken down in detail the food groups that increase the likelihood of healthy aging – and identified the best diet overall.

For the purposes of the study, researchers led by a team from Harvard University defined healthy aging as reaching 70 without any chronic diseases – and still being in good shape mentally and physically.

The analysis showed that the Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) came top of eight healthy dietary patterns studied: developed by Harvard, the AHEI prioritizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, and healthy fats.

Our friend had the entire pancreas removed. It is a tough surgery.

I retained my pyloric valve and most of my pancreas. Open Whipple. 4 hours. My renal artery was nicked. Large bleed out. Months of complications and infections.

Whipple is the prescribed "fix" for ampullary cancer. The surgeon did a great job. The statistical recurrence for ampullary cancer after the Whipple is 45% within 2 years. My 2 year will be June 2026. For now, I'm in the "eye of the storm". My gut hurts most of the time and maintaining my weight is a daily battle. I'm blessed to still have a full time job, good medical insurance and group life insurance. I have time to dot the i's and cross the t's before things get rough again.

Welp I was writing you a detailed update in case your ‘mark’ was re folate in milk but I accidentally shut down my computer. ARGGHH!!

The quick answer - MAHA (make america healthy again - RFK Jr.) may be at work because last year I saw CDC messages saying it was time to signficantly increase ‘fortified’ folate in foods and just today I went looking and can’t find folate ADDED to milk. There is natural folate IN milk, but often proteins in milk are present which bind the good milk so drinking it doesn’t support very much folate in the body.
In researching my update to my prior post, I found that UHT processed milk (80% of organic milk brands and most shelf stable milk products) do not contain the protein which binds to good folate and makes it unavailable. UHT is ‘Ultra High Temperature’ processed milk. It has to be done right though, because if done poorly UHT processing can taste ‘burnt’.

The modern diet causes obesity. Historically 1-2% of calories came from linoleic acid, but now it’s 25-40%. Lab animals fed this diet balloon out.

Big Tobacco bought food companies and used their people to make additive food, knowing it is unhealthy. Combined with “bet you can’t eat just one” marketing, unhealthy addictive food is inflicted upon the uniformed and undisciplined masses.

A multi-pronged national health program is needed to fight obesity: diet quality and quantity, exercise, sunshine, etc.

I am proud that you have handled that the way you have.

This morning I received a Teams meeting appointment from my boss titled "Ending Work". The meeting comes in 3 hours. I haven't found another position suitable in the company, so plan A is to initiate retirement. The downside is I will lose the life insurance, the healthcare insurance will transition to Medicare and I will need to sign up for social security and start drawing from my 401k. Not exactly the way I had planned to wrap up 33 1/2 years with the company in terms of timing, but all the ducks are in a row. I just need to initiate the process after the meeting.

All the different diets have all sorts of different criteria, which really confuses me. I don’t know what to do!
