Columbia University is getting close to yielding to President Trump’s demands in negotiations to restore $400 million in federal funding, according to people close to the discussions.
The Trump administration has extended Columbia’s deadline until Friday to agree to nine far-reaching demands. The government earlier this month canceled the grants and contracts over allegations of antisemitism on the New York City campus but gave the university a review period.
The demands include banning masks, empowering campus police and putting the school’s department of Middle East, South Asian and African Studies under “academic receivership,” which means it would no longer be controlled by the faculty.

Trump’s got a lotta powerful folks out there that end up doing things his way. He’s not afraid of confrontation unlike most others. St the same time he doesn’t rub it in once it’s over and the deal is done. He even praised Chuckie over his budget caves.
As for the rest of the democrats Chuck is on his own. I wouldn’t want his job if it means going against Trump.
Why should these universities get my tax money?
They mostly cater to foreign students

“Banning masks” as a condition. This is very important. No protestors should be allowed to terrorize people while wearing masks IMHO. I’d like to stop seeing masks period. I saw a white guy in an N95 today and a kafiyah. I’ll say no more.

I can see that happening when a university is doing important medical research, like looking for a cure for some terrible disease.
Such grants would have to be very selectively awarded. But unfortunately, I don’t think government bureaucrats are capable of making wise decisions.
So we end up funding studies on how gay mice behave in Australia.
Which is great. If the Democrats had any hope of being relevant they would move a little to the center. But Schumer took a beating over the budget now he wants to stay on the far Left periphery. Excellent.
