Whether you’re barbecuing this weekend or just hanging out, what’s your go-to GAME you like to play in the backyard? We’ve got a ranking of the 10 BEST backyard games of all time based on fun, accessibility, and overall popularity. See if you agree . . .
1. Cornhole. It’s kind of THE go-to game now. Cincinnati gets credit for coming up with the modern version in the 1960s. But someone also patented a similar game with square holes way back in 1883.
2. Bocce. It’s good for multiple people, and you can play it anywhere. You don’t need a legit bocce court, or even a nice patch of grass. Just open space.
3. Wiffle ball. A guy in Connecticut made backyard baseball possible when he came up with it in 1953.
4. Two-hand-touch. Flag football is even better. Just stuff a rag in your belt.
5. Kickball. Fun fact: Brits call it “football rounders,” and Canadians call it “soccer baseball.” (You sure you want ’em as the 51st state, Mr. President?)

Kubb is The Shizz.
I was going to post it, but you got there first. :)
Horse shoes and skinny dipping.
I always liked croquet but could never usually find enough people to play it.
Kick the can and waffle ball
Hahahahahahaha...Jarts!!!!!!
The killer game for kids with a score to settle!
BB gun war!! Sucks to have the pistol, the pump was the best!!
Paintball battle games!
And bottle rocket fights. Can't forget those.
It’s horseshoes for us Westerners.
I give a vote for kick the can too.
Heh, I loved croquet!
I did nearly break my foot with a mallet one time when, you place one ball behind the other, set your foot on top of the ball you are going to hit, and in my case, wind up like Tiger Woods because you REALLY want to drive that ball into the nearby woods to make up for all the torture that person had been inflicting on you!
Instead, you hit more of your foot than the ball...and those wooden mallets could do a number!
Sigh. My childhood memories, being out in a yard playing croquet as the sun went down, fireflies coming out of the woods...waiting for my mom to call us in with a bell she had on the back of the house outside the kitchen...:)
She had a big triangle she would whang away at with a steel rod, but the bell worked better (or was less annoying to neighbors, perhaps!).
Magic times.
Hahahahahahahaha! We used to do that as stupid teenagers!
Croquet is tops for me.
Hehehe, this thread is a riot!
Flip Cup
Beer Pong
Volleyball
Baseball batting practice. Lots of bunts, too many swings and misses, but very few lost baseballs. ;-P
Pétanque is more fun than bocce. It’s almost the same rules, but the balls are smaller and heavier and the game is more aggressive using fist sized steel balls and using them to roll, or throw and smash, the other balls to get closer to the pin or to remove your opponents balls.
