Perfect condition. Most not even opened.

They have no value. We have about 4 sets that go back to the 20's

Nice to look at every now and then.

The librarian in my town was a man. He was very geeky, likely a poofter and smelled strongly of body odor. As I recall, he had a very weak voice. Just gave off several weird vibes all at the same time.

Back in my day Librarians were stern women, some had faint moustaches.

You didn’t know about her private life. You didn’t want to know about her private life.

"Home-Made Toys for Girls and Boys" (1915) is available free in several formats here. It's a fascinating look at that era's technology and pastimes.

As a lifelong bibliophile, I had managed to accumulate many, many books. Downsizing these days and moving to a much smaller house. I gave away some of the books to other book lovers of my acquaintance. Could not get my children or my grandchildren interested in any of the remaining.

My salvation came in the form of a book sale sponsored by the local library. I donated most of my books to that.

Perhaps your local library has such a program.

I had a full set of Encyclopedia Britannica, with about 8 years (?) worth of updates. I gave them to the Salvation Army. But that was about 20 years ago..

Everybody’s getting awfully persnickety nowadays. The Salvation Army won’t even take can foods that are just slightly expired anymore...

Maybe in your area there’s a used book store. We have one one here in Knoxville, “McKay’s”, who will buy them, depending on their value.

When DH retired, he took two SUVs full of his physics text and research books in, and left with almost $2,000 in his pocket. Some were industry “treasures” and had been out of print for years.

They research value while you wait.

Stopped by the local library today (it’s nice even in our little village) and in the “give-away” magazine bin was a 1956 National Geographic. My Grandparents kept Geographics and American Heritage and I read them voraciously when I summered with them. It was fun to revisit those days through this old magazine.

Those encyclopedias are out of date and worthless. No one would take them.

Novels or other books yes, but not encyclopedias

L.A. County libraries have NO fines for overdue books. I think they figured out no one is going to return a book if they have to pay a fine. I hope they kick that non-returner person off the library rolls. But less people read books anymore.

I humbly disagree. There is some worth. It is a record of what was important at the time of its compilation. Much of what is written about is extinct...personalities, cities, nations, contraptions, historical conflicts ...that stuff is dropped out of current encyclopedias, printed and online. History should not be erased or forgotten. Most people only want what can help them in today’s world...so yeah, the yesteryear of encyclopedias are useless to them.
