Ontario Premier Doug Ford is imposing a 25% surcharge on electricity the province supplies to three U.S. states. Ford announced the higher costs to be paid by Americans in Michigan, Minnesota, and New York which buy Canadian power. Ontario might even turn it off.
Ford said average electricity customers in those states can expect their utility bills to go up an average of $100 per month ($69 US) until the trade war with the U.S. comes to an end.
Ford promised in a series of media appearances and a press release he wouldn't hesitate to increase the surcharge or get even tougher if things don't change rapidly. "Let me be clear, I will not hesitate to increase this charge. If necessary, if the United States escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely. Believe me when I say I do not want to do this."

Sorry, I thought it was the same guy.
Didn’t know they were brothers.
He always reminded me of “Tommy Boy”.
Thanks for correcting my mistake
Mea Culpa
The problem is most people hate those Potlatch and Biewer Red Pine studs. Just like most customers really don’t want to buy Southern Yellow Pine anything even IF it is $200/mbf cheaper. Most customers in the USA prefer to buy Spruce and Spruce/Lodgepole studs.
This is why European Nordic Spruce lumber has been so well accepted up and down the east coast. It is just better quality lumber.
Same story out west. Customers would prefer to buy Douglas Fir. DF is the preferred species out west with almost all customers. They do not want to buy SYP either. No matter what the price. In the desert they prefer to buy White Fir or Grand Fir. It works better in 120 degrees and 10% humidity.
You nailed it. The RATS do things intentionally to get us in these kinds of situations. Self-created crises.
Red pine studs? Your mistaken as far as Potlach. Biewer still buys Red Pine and I would in no way, build another house out of Doug Fir. Worst crap there is for studs.
Potlach buys spruce, balsam, larch, jackpine as well as red pine. No northern Hemlock.
I understand that Biewer has switched to some off species also.
Potlatch.
Potlatch studs are Jack Pine primarily. They might have a little Spruce or Balsam.
Their studs are not well thought of in the industry.
Spruce studs, White fir studs and Douglas Fir all sell for a premium to studs out of Potlatch.
Or add a surcharge?
Let me put it this way.
If its produced here in the USA. The builders will use it. Like it or not.
BTW. I can call Rob up at Sawyer lumber and see exactly how much spruce they use. I suspect in excess of 60%.
Yup, just as i thought.
Just talked to the wood buyer up there.
Told him what you said.
His reply was. “Of course he says that.” “Seaboard gets a good portion of its lumber from Eastern Canada so we are taking a lot of their business away.”
BTW. Says their sales reflect the quality of their lumber in the upper midwest.
In short, your full of shit.
They will end up losing 100% of their sales long term. If they shut down electric to the liberal states they will stop objecting to plants being built and we will build them. We are going into summer, it won’t be that bad, and if they do that, we just put a 100% or 200% tariff on everything from Canada. They shut down electric we shut down their country.
