WASHINGTON, D.C. — With reports circulating that President Donald Trump was preparing to sign an executive order to eliminate the much-debated federal agency, Democrats made it known that they were ready to defend the Department of Education just as soon as they figured out what it does.
Sources on Capitol Hill said top Democrats held closed-door meetings Thursday morning to discuss the Department of Education in hopes of determining what it does and how they could possibly defend it against Trump's quest to do away with it.
"The president can't possibly consider eliminating the Department of Education, because… of some very important things," said Senator Chuck Schumer. "We shouldn't have to explain why the Department of Education is so vital, or about the irreplaceable benefits it provides for the country. We don't want to explain it. Please don't ask us."
Other Democrats pointed to the necessity of keeping the agency alive so that it could find solutions to the problems it caused. "We need the Department of Education to look into fixing all of the issues that have been caused by the Department of Education," said Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. "These low test scores and rising illiteracy rates are the result of decades of failing by the Department of Education, which is why we need a Department of Education to turn things around."
At publishing time, Democrats had also warned that allowing individual states to set their own standards for public education could lead to a startling increase in children being better educated and becoming productive members of society.
The Bee wasn’t so hot for a while but the past months it’s been on fire :)
Maybe dems make it easy to write this kind of stuff :)
It’s a bank where the deposits are handed out if you can prove you comply with leftist ideology and Randy Weingarten. They have zero to do with actual educational content or curriculum.
I think these brainwashed people actual believe this crap.
Even Harold Ford, Jr defended this idea last night on The Five. Fortunately, Judge Janine brought up the concept of how a far-away bureaucracy cannot understand how children in local schools should be taught.
And, though she didn't mention it, it should be noted that bureaucracies are not concerned with results, they are concerned with process, power, and control.
“Even Harold Ford, Jr defended this idea last night on The Five.”
His low key demeanor doesn’t cut any ice with me, I see right through him.
When he gets wound up the REAL liberal comes to the surface.....
Yup
Harold Ford Jr is the token Black nan on the Five
We already have 50 Departments of Education around the country, one in each state, in each state we have dozens of school boards with elected officials with control over the local school systems, the last thing we need is a Department of Education in Washington overseeing what already exists.
If people aren’t happy with their local school system, vote for new school board members and vote for new state representatives that will change the schools on a statewide level.
But at least he's better than Jessica Tarlov. She's like fingernails on a chalkboard.
The Bee produces more truth than fiction.
they know - it gives money to their benefactors and not for the children’s education.
Did Soros groups get any money from this department?
I believe that a better strategy would be to use the DOE to establish:
1) a downloadable set of materials and criteria for each grade level. For example, to pass 5th grade English, the student must demonstrate X,Y,Z
2) The minimum acceptable proficiency for the Federal government to accept a HS Diploma; an Associates, Bachelors, Masters and Phd.
Then wait past the next election. If the GOP gains in the House, look to eliminate the DOE then. I dont think that there are enough votes yet.
You know this post is satire right? 😏
Lawrence on “Fox & Friends” this morning was lamenting how many parents are forced to keep their children in failing schools where they don’t get a decent education, and hoping that the Secretary of Education will be able to channel more money to where it can help charter schools.
There are no teachers on the payroll of the Dep’t of Education department.
It’s primary job is making little boys into little girls.
But I do wonder, what is the ratio of DOE employees to children in the education system? I know they have more employees then they have public school teachers.
Close the Department of Education and use the building to store all of Obamas junk until his library is built. A double win right there.
