I oppose abolishing the IRS; instead, I propose redirecting its mission to better serve the public. Rather than focusing on auditing individual taxpayers, the IRS should be tasked with auditing all elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as any corporations, organizations, or institutions that receive taxpayer funds. This shift would promote accountability and transparency, ensuring that the IRS operates in the interest of “We the People” rather than against them.
Additionally, I support establishing term limits for high-ranking public officials to prevent the consolidation of power over extended periods. To address the risk of corruption, however, these positions should offer substantial salaries that reflect the importance of their duties. For instance, the President of the United States currently earns approximately $450,000 annually, while members of Congress receive around $200,000. These amounts are strikingly low when compared to the compensation of corporate CEOs, professional athletes, and entertainers, who often earn millions for roles with less societal responsibility. A recent example is an NFL player signing a 4-year, $40 million contract—averaging $10 million per year. Given the weight of their obligations, it is reasonable to suggest that public officials, such as the President, should be paid at a level that reduces financial incentives for unethical behavior.
By reorienting the IRS to prioritize oversight of public funds and reforming compensation for elected officials, we can create a more trustworthy and effective government.
