Mark Carney became the new Prime Minister of Canada by winning the leadership race of the Liberal Party of Canada on March 9, 2025. He was elected by Liberal Party members to replace Justin Trudeau. Carney’s victory was overwhelming, as he secured 85.9% of the vote.

We didn’t vote for Carney. Trudeau resigned, the Liberal party held a leadership convention, Carney won that and stepped into Trudeau’s position for the rest of his term. We still need an election where Canadians decide on the next 4 year Prime Minister.
