Gene Hackman’s sad passing motivated me to post this as a new thread.
There are alarm companies that will call you every single day to see if you’re okay. The cost is reasonable, maybe $40 a month.
Every older or handicapped person (or couple) should seriously consider getting such a service.
I didn’t know that.
They mention the “reasonable” price for this service. I don’t know what it costs here, but if you are at the lower end of S.S. payments, then it’s not “reasonable”. I guess it might be more reasonable if you didn’t have to consider inflation on other things that you MUST have.
“If you are young enough to enjoy loud rock and roll, then this service probably isn’t for you.”
When I’ve got my earbuds in, I can’t hear anything but the music.
I was already thinking about my older brother. He lives alone and will be 75 this summer.
I plan to talk to him about a daily check-in to see if he’s ok. We live an hour and a half away so would like to have a contact of someone he trusts locally who would agree to check on him if he doesn’t reply in a timely manner.
But for people w/o reliable family or family at all, who can check, the service could literally be a life saver.
My incoming phone calls interrupt the music playing on my ear buds. I hear the phone ringing, then Siri announces “Call from Bob. Answer it?”
It’s really slick. I say “Yes, answer it” and BINGO, we are connected.
Exactly, my sister and I had the same situation. I lived locally, my sister across country. I did the day to day, my sister paid for a weekly housekeeper, laundry service, anything mom needed as well as helping me. We both spoke to her daily. I suspect there were issues with Hackman’s wife and his kids.
To what end?
If you’re dead, you’re dead. And all earthly cares thus falleth away....
I purchased that alarm system for my mother in 2014 she was 96 at the time. When I would visit I would activate the system and it would take them 8 minutes to answer on their best days.
Sounds good. Especially for those bot blessed with children, or those not blessed with friends, or those too old to have living friends or family remaining.
The contracepting, aborting, mean, selfish could also use it.
5 years in a hot Kansas July ago one of my across the street neighbors, heavily overweight and in his late 50s, had a heart attack. The police showed up in response to a welfare check by his brother. An ambulance was called A young female EMT rushed out of the house and threw up in the front yard. He had been dead for 4 or 5 days by that point. It was not nice.
I have scammers call me daily, does that count?
It is a good idea to have some sort of check-in system, for sure.
Good of you to remind people.
Yeah, but you might still have pets that need feeding, and it’s gotta suck when the cats have eaten your face because you stopped putting out food a few days ago.
