Yesterday, some footage of the craft laying on the runway also showed a wind sock blowing straight horizontal to the ground. seemed very windy.
Seems to me the rear left wheels failed. That could be that the plane was coming down too hard. It did so because of 25mph cross winds. But the rear wheels could have had a problem. I was in several flights where the plane came down so hard that masks dropped down and plastic parts of the ceiling fell on us. So I think the wheels should be able to handle a very hard landing. This time they did not.
That could be. I’ve heard from other sources that the plane was also coming down way too fast, and there was no visible flare over the runway. Maybe because of a wind gust, maybe because of pilot error—all the flight data is intact, so we will see. The right wing hit the runway, possibly because of landing gear failure, and was sheared off. The plane rolled because the left wing was still providing lift. The real cause is still being looked at, so I’m withholding further judgement until they can tell us more.

“there was no visible flare over the runway”
Good candidate for F-18 carrier ops, civil aviation not so much.
