When Ric Harris traded in his ageing Mercedes for a Tesla Model 3, he was instantly converted.
“It was a bit like having a spaceship,” says the 51-year-old computer programmer. “It saved me an absolute fortune in fuel; the only thing it’s had done is tyres and topping up the windscreen washer fluid.”
When he acquired the car on a company scheme, Harris did not consider the politics of Tesla’s billionaire owner too closely. “Elon Musk just seemed like a really interesting person. Everything he was doing seemed really positive,” he says.
Four and a half years later, the car’s lease is expiring. And despite it being one of the best vehicles he has ever driven, Harris has no intention of keeping it.
“It’s a brand that, from my point of view, has become toxic. It would be like buying a VW Beetle in 1939 Germany.”

Elon Musk is a U.S. Citizen, and he is a patriot for casting caution aside and pouring himself into correcting some of our horrendous gov’t corruption. Back around Trump’s inaugeration when the auditing was just getting started, someone cautioned Musk that he might alienate his customers and hurt his business. He said, I DON’T CARE! This is so big and so deep, we must clean it up while we have this window of opportunity. (Paraphrase). He also RECENTLY said this, “I love Trump as much as a straight man can love another man.”
$400 billion is a LOT of FU money. I'd like to have 1/1000 of one percent of that.
While on a business trip a few years ago, I saw a Tesla with a vanity plate that read something like "COALPWRD"
You beat me to it...I was going to say the same...I too, have seen this very thing happen locally...
I did not think a Tesla made financial sense but if I can pick one up free from a liberal that hates Trump and Musk then how can I refuse?

It's nice to see people with good intentions treat US government money the way they treat their own money. Too bad a entire generation (or more) of politicians didn't do the same.
