Plastic Shards May Be Increasing In Human Brains
Dallas Expess ^ | 2-10-25 | Jesse Oberoi

Researchers examined cognitively normal human brain samples gathered at autopsy in early 2024 and found that tiny plastic shards were higher than just eight years earlier. The cadaver brains contained up to 30 times more microplastics than kidneys and liver, roughly equivalent to the amount found in an entire plastic spoon.

“The concentrations we saw in the brain tissue of normal individuals, who had an average age of around 45 or 50 years old, were 4,800 micrograms per gram, or 0.48% by weight,” said co-lead study author Matthew Campen, Regents’ professor

Poisoned water supplies?

Intentional or otherwise…

Water is something that everyone needs on a daily basis.

Just found a microplastics at home blood test today...the only one AFAIK. I was going to do the urine (Million Marker) but this seems more accurate, although not for the brain, and half the price.

Examine ‘cognitively’ cadaver brains? What does it even mean???
The stupidity of the anti- plastics conmen has no bound.

As I recall, the original biodegradable plastics were for plastic bags to break down so turtles would not suffocate. These were made from powdered plastic particles and corn starch-type stuff to hold them together.

What broke down was the starch, which left plastic particles behind.

We really did not realize what that meant.

Plastic shards can cross the blood-brain barrier ?

Seems a bit unlikely.

Hmmm....plastics have been around for DECADES .... just ask The Graduate.

What particle, recently introduced, could possibly be crossing the blood/brain barrier? 🤔

Microplastics are the new global warming. Something that scares everyone for which they’ll have to impose draconian enviromental regulations to counter. And since plastics are made from oil guess what that means?

Plastic shards can cross the blood-brain barrier ?

Probably not, but some microplastic particles are only a nanometer in diameter. Many viruses (generally 30 to 100 nm in diameter) and some bacteria get across the BBB, but they can use transcytosis to do this. It wouldn't shock me if very small plastic microparticles can get across. Even if they don't get across, if they affect the brains microvasculature or the brain glymphatic system it could be bad. For me, I'd rather not have them there. Especially if they found an amount equivalent to a plastic spoon!

I have enough issues..

Plastics in an of themselves are not a problem, just certain plastics and mostly packaging materials (see my username).

Many plastics can be made biodegradable.

Nylons for instance are a bit similar to proteins and will gradually be degraded by bacteria. (Don’t bury your Glock without putting it in a box.)

Silicone elastomers can also be attacked by soil bacteria.

Problem is such plastics are usually more expensive.
