A Louisiana woman with a history of drugging men and stealing their credit cards was arrested in connection to the death of a Kansas City Telemundo reporter while he was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl, police said Friday.
Danette Colbert, 48, of Slidell, was busted after she was captured in surveillance camera footage leaving journalist Adan Manzano’s hotel room, then allegedly using his credit card at stores around the Big Easy, NBC News reported.
She was captured in surveillance camera footage leaving the 27-year-old reporter’s hotel room in the suburb of Kenner before going on the alleged shopping spree, according to police.
Adan Manzano was found unresponsive in his hotel room in a New Orleans suburb. Colbert has so far only been charged with property crimes, including bank fraud and theft — but she has previously been accused of drugging at least two men and going on shopping sprees with their cards, Kenner police said. She has a rap sheet “that includes allegations of drugging men, theft of currency, fraudulent use of credit and debit cards, and other financial crimes,” Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said.

Back in the late 1980’s/early 1990’, there were a number of 3X and 4X motels along Airline Highway. I’ll admit they weren’t all near the airport. You may recall that Jimmy Swaggart met his end at one of them.
About the mid-1990’s, they started to clean up that area. They built a minor league ballpark — although the team moved to Wichita at the end of the 2019 season.
I wonder if the 3X and 4X motels have made a comeback? You’d think that a reporter wouldn’t stay at a place like that, but...
Apparently they have the death penalty for Telemundo reporters.

The motel where Swaggart’s career ended was not in Kenner as I recall — either Metairie or maybe unincorporated Jefferson Parish.
