There was a dear friend in my life, he was very much the grandfather that I never got to have. Before he became an educator and ultimately school superintendent he spent some time in the entertainment industry. He was good friends with George Burns and Gracie Allen.
My friend also took Katherine Hepburn out to dinner a few times. He had a REALLY full and interesting life!

Agree, I tried watching it back in the day, and didn’t care for how Hollywood portrays much anything religious.

Warner Bros. is letting people watch the 1977 film "Oh, God!" for free at YouTube. They must be making another one and are wanting to gin up some interest in their forthcoming movie.

Humor. No one is tempted to idolize George Burns as a deity. I remember that argument in 1977. The movie led No One off the rails doctrinally, iirc.

That scene is so ugly where they ask him if Jesus is his son. βYes, Jesus is my son. And allah is my son. And Buddha is my son.β

Call me a prude, I consider it blasphemous but let them have their fun. If that’s what they want to do, it’s their choice.

It's pretty common for people to incorrectly think we are all God's children.

Loved it! Still remember that after 50 years.
Religious humor that isn’t nasty is quite fun. Can’t stand stuff like the cross in urine. That was disgusting. But using George Burns as God was brilliant. Back in the 40’s, you had some great movies with Claude Rains as an angel, I think. And the British series buddy movie about the Devil and Angel being best buds since the Garden of Eden - Good Omens - is one of the absolute best. When the two separate and go to their respective bureaucracies, and one goes to the up escalator and one to the down, I was clapping madly.

This is a hilarious movie. The scene where George Burns shuffles into the courtroom and claims to be God - asked to prove it, he says “pick a card”.
And yes, there are some troubling bits of dialogue, but the concept of the Almighty being portrayed by the 90-something, frail, harmless-looking Burns is just too good. And the overall message - God loves us and wants us to know He is there and doesn’t like false prophets speaking lies in His name - is positive. John Denver as the meek guy chosen to spread the Word is perfect in the role.
The sequels were crap. The original is well worth a watch.
