No president in history has caused more damage to the nation more quickly. As we enter Week 3 of President Donald Trump’s second term, the chaos and disruption of his first look quaint by comparison. The country survived Trump 1. Now, it faces a real threat that the harm he inflicts during his second term will be irreparable. The United States’ standing in the world, its ability to keep the country safe, the federal government’s fundamental capacity to operate effectively — all of these will take years to repair, if that can be achieved at all.
This column will concentrate on the third piece of that trifecta: efforts to undermine the basic functioning of government. A unifying theme of much of Trump’s activity since Jan. 20 has been his unrelenting and broadscale assault on the federal workforce. In his first term, Trump railed about what he termed the “deep state” and its seeming ability to frustrate his plans. In his second, he has unleashed a no-holds-barred attack on career employees — one designed to punish those who dared to counter him or his allies; to oust or neuter those with years of expertise; and to set the stage for a new spoils system, replacing seasoned, nonpartisan career workers with compliant Trump loyalists.
“[Trump] is destroying whatever gets in the way of what he wants to do,” Max Stier, the normally mild-mannered president of the Partnership for Public Service, told me. “That includes having loyalty be the primary screen for choosing his direct lieutenants and crushing the civil service and converting it into a tool for his private agenda, as opposed to a force for the public good and the rule of law.”
Contempt for civil servants — sneering at “unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.” — is not...

Tell me, WaPo: how was this government been operating effectively under Biden?
Was the border secure?
Was human trafficking a non-problem?
Was people free from the chance of dying from drugs laced with fentenal?
Did Iran give up their desire to create a nuclear weapon or was that actually enabled?
Did this Government aid and abet the killing of millions worldwide via Covid-19 (technically under Trump's 1st term, but certainly hidden from any scrutiny)
Did this military become a feared fighting force -- or a social experimentation lab with free presto-chango surgery available for any mentally ill person who wanted it?
Did a nationwide network of electric vehicle charging station get created... or were billions wasted on that promise?
I could go on, but... I'd rather celebrate the changes underway to end all of that graft and corruption.
Hey guys, you work for him. If you do not want to follow his orders, quit!
I thought the most damaging 2 weeks in Presidential history were Biden’s. He signed a raft of EOs put before him aimed at undoing anything Trump, even things that were working well. E.g., the border “stay in Mexico” policy, Gas/oil leasing policy and regulation (e.g., the Dakota Access Pipeline, where the courts and the governments jerked the builders around, and Biden just cancelled it after they had jumped through every hoop).
Trump’s return calls for strong measures. Whether we are better off or not long-term if a Presiden’t powers are so great, is an interesting topic for discussion. But, what’s a President to do when a corrupt Congress has handed off responsibility to nameless bureaucrats? To quote Terminator 1 here: “Who is in authority here?”
I had no idea that “damaging” was a synonym for fantastic! Live and learn!
Just what I expected her to look like.
We’ve learned nothing from the last election.
I’ve heard a story recently that the reason the media got everything so wrong is because only talk to each other. ABC would post a story that they heard from CBS
CBS would post a story they heard from CNN
CNN would post a story they heard from somebody at ABC. And around and around the story goes but no factual basis for it to begin with.
Not worth the read. Will I know that the deep state swamp hates Trump if I read this?
"Unnamed sources" is the giveaway.
If this is called damage, I want Fukishima and Cali wildfire levels of it.
Woo boy. The left is big mad!!
At first glance you’d think this piece was written by the lovely and charming Jennifer Rubin.
America’s “best of times”, are the deep statist’s: “worst of times”
It pays to be a winner don’t it?
These have been some of the most open, productive, and wonderful weeks of my existence and I’m in my late 70s. President Trump and the people he has surrounded himself with may just be the saviors of Free America. There are so many criminals, so much crime, and so much corruption involved with these large amounts of money that the government takes from us that none of this should surprise anyone. I hope Justice finds every criminal at every level.
They’re all clowns.
And if they’re not clowns they’re piles of putrid, worm infested, vomitous, pus-filled, infected, clown excrement.
Oh my God that’s just absolutely perfect.
I’m hacking up a lung over here.
God forgive me for gloating.
I think opening up the border to Mexican cartel drug smugglers and human traffickers, Venezuelan prison gangs, Central American itinerant workers, Islamic terrorists, and Chinese military-age men did a lot of damage.

The Compost is fanning the flames for another attack on Trump. I hope they realize this because a whole lot of pissed off ppl will be coming for them when that happens.
