The Kremlin has accused President Trump of attempting to erode Russia and China’s nuclear potential with his plan for an Iron Dome missile defence system.
The programme was “yet another confirmation of the US focus on turning space into a scene of armed confrontation and deployment of weapons”, Maria Zakharova, the chief spokeswoman of the Russian foreign ministry, said.
Trump issued an executive order on Monday mandating a process to develop an “Iron Dome for America”, a reference to the aerial defence shield used by Israel.
Zakharova said that this implied “a sharp intensification of the US national missile defence project and its expansion to a scale comparable to Star Wars, [the former US president Ronald] Reagan’s strategic defence initiative”.
The project would “by no means contribute to reducing tensions or improving the state of affairs in the strategic sphere, including the creation of a basis for a fruitful dialogue on strategic offensive arms,” she added.

I think what really worries PUTIN is not the plan itself, but rather that the Neocons, should they get power again, will delude themselves into thinking that our Iron Dome could absorb a large Russian salvo, much as they apparently thought our “wonder weapons” and “sanctions” would destroy Russia’s military and economy.
The problem is here is that not as easy to walk away from a miscalculation when it causes our own cities to be destroyed.

Big difference, though. During the Cold War, the same Democrats who now demand WW3 literally wanted the Soviets to win. But back then, neither party wanted WW3, so the Soviets weren’t nearly as worried as they would be if the Neocons returned to power.
The bottom line is that, until the Democrats do a WHOLESALE PURGE of their leadership, they simply cannot be trusted with new ‘toys’.

Well, for us, back from Madrid, every day is Bilbao day.
The Pinxos here are all in the “Plaza Nueva”, about 15 min walk from our flat. As in everything Spanish, “Nueva” is relative, in this case it dates from @1820. This is barely a taste of whats around in Bilbao however.
