How the United States' withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement may impact Wisconsin

Among the slew of executive actions President Trump signed Monday, there is one that may impact our climate.

The Paris Climate Agreement is an agreement between countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions with the goal of avoiding human interference in climate change.

When speaking with UW-Madison climate expert, Jack Williams, he shares with he has taught climate change courses for over a decade and says he has seen a major shift in how climate change is viewed.

"Public opinion and awareness has really shifted on this. And so, there is this interesting disconnect between public awareness, which people are mostly now convinced that climate change is happening. They're seeing the impact in their lives or seeing their insurance bills go up versus the, you know, the political leadership and sometimes the disinformation campaigns that go on around this," Williams said.

Williams attributes recent major weather events across the country to climate change.

"Rainfall intensity, and these extreme events of droughts and floods has been linked to climate change...weather extremes like hurricanes and floods. Those have a link to human caused climate change," he said.

He fears that by the U.S. pulling out of the agreement and there being less of an effort to combat climate change could impact Wisconsin.

"We're all affected by each other's actions. And so here in Wisconsin, we have been fortunate to date that we have not had the devastating fires of, say, California. We are seeing warmer winters, warmer summers. We're seeing an increasing, frequency of big rain events with more than an inch and a day that that those bigger rain events are intensifying in the state."

He is a Geography Prof., but maybe he should take a few Geology courses. It might help him understand the science a bit better.

“the goal of avoiding human interference in climate change. “

Oh, so that’s the new talking point? It’s not “climate change”, it’s “human interference with climate change”.

So they now accept the unquestionable fact that climate changes on its own.

I am ashamed to admit that I am a graduate of this institution.

When I got my BSEE, it was a highly respected institution of higher learned.

Now it is a joke in extremely poor taste.

To Hell with Williams AND Wisconsin. I want to see the $1.00 per gallon carbon tax on gasoline/diesel here in Washington State shoved up the backside of Inslee, Ferguson, and the far left cukes in our legislature. Thieves!

“… We’re seeing an increasing, frequency of big rain events with more than an inch and a day…”

I grew up in South Mississippi. An inch of rain is just a garden variety afternoon shower.

Now living in Wisconsin has been an eye opener. It’s way too dry here.

The web page

https://climatology.nelson.wisc.edu/

for the Wisconsin State Climatology Office is now just a bunch of typical liberal glitzy crap. Prior to August 2023 you could find very nice detailed graphs and tables of Wisconsin weather data.

Here’s one that was saved prior to Aug ‘23:

https://i.postimg.cc/D0JyGgKM/image.png

If you follow the link you will easily see that the claim of “We are seeing warmer winters, warmer summers.” isn’t true. Wisconsin is not seeing warmer summers.

So, Diana, if Jack Williams told you that in his climate change course, he’s not teaching the truth. I live in Milwaukee and yes, I know winters are warmer, If you’re 80, you don’t need a thermometer to know that. Warmer Summers? Probably not, here’s a graph of “Highest Temperature by Year for Milwaukee”

https://i.postimg.cc/d1q9J5yr/image.png

If you follow that link you will see there were three years since 2000 where it never got to 90°F. Not reaching 90 hadn’t happened since 1918.

So Diana do your own research and seriously consider that University Professors aren’t necessarily honest.

They're seeing the impact in their lives or seeing their insurance bills go up versus the, you know, the political leadership and sometimes the disinformation campaigns that go on around this," Williams said..."

They have been brutally and forcefully brainwashing children all through K-12 and higher education now for decades beginning in the 1990's.

They have been bent on turning them into climate nags who would admonish their parents for some activity like grilling with charcoal or buying meat from cattle which produce methane, never mind driving the family car which has an internal combustion engine.

This is not an accident.

On the good side, there are many of those brainwashed who have grown fully into adulthood who have heard for decades that the oceans are rising and the world is ending, who after decades of hearing this, looked around and noticed the oceans haven't risen and the world hasn't ended. Those people, even the brainwashed ones, are increasingly accepting they have been sold a bill of goods.

So, in that sense, there is hope.

Unlike this complete loser of an author who finds an "interesting" disconnect in public awareness on climate change, what I find "interesting" is that my whole life, we universally and without exception ridiculed the image of people walking up and down a street wearing a sandwich board "The World Is Ending".

We would sometimes feel pity for them, and even ridicule them. Nobody took them seriously. Nobody. Before the Internet, they became one of the first lasting "memes" that has survived even until this day, as evidenced by this cartoon below:

I found this image below interesting, because here, there was a real threat from Y2K and computer programs, and Time had this on the cover of one of their issues:

What I found interesting is that Time Magazine, one of the most ardent purveyors of the climate hoax, presented that image on the cover of their magazine with respect to Y2K.

(As an aside, even people on this very forum still say it was a scam, but nearly EVERY single IT person I know, and I was one of them, working for over a year or two in advance, participating in weekly meetings with up to forty people or more, looking at vulnerabilities, identifying them, testing to see if they would fail, and implementing changes in software to remediate it. When it came, so many people had worked on it that it was anti-climax because the world didn't go dark. People who think Y2K was a scam are bald-faced idiots who don't know what they are talking about.)

The point is, many of us have looked at the last 30-40 years of these people peddling climate alarmism, saying things like the world is going to end in X years if nothing is done, in exactly the same light that our parents and grandparents looked at those oddballs wearing the sandwich boards saying the world is going to end.

It is hard to maintain credibility when you keep insisting that the world is going to end in X years, and in X years, nothing happens. So they bump it out another X years, saying it will end then. And in X years still nothing happens.

But hey. Suckers are born every minute.

We worked on the conversion for two and a half years.

And there WAS a danger.

I just like to point out that it’s fortunate that India and China are on another planet whose atmosphere doesn’t interact with ours here in the Americas.

Thank you!

Did you notice in one of Trump’s speeches on Monday he talked about their pollution just drifting across the ocean and settling on our towns and cities over here??

I love his sometimes tortured syntax and the way he words things!

I know...I have to roll my eyes at the “Y2K deniers”...most of them didn’t have to sweat out what could happen. I work in a hospital, and we had an old mumps based dumb terminal system, and yeah...it had the two character year field...we tested it and saw what would have happened.

Like you, we sweated it out and slaved on it.
